UTV badly need's to refresh it's presentation. The theme of their idents hasn't changed since 2003, this is now their 6th batch of idents using the dreadful location idents, with the name of the area is displayed. Why do they insist that people know where they are filmed. It makes the idents look really cheap with so much screen clutter. As for the u rest ident, is it to much to ask for the tripod to be still?
Remind me to get some tin foil when I pop to the shops tomorrow so I can do a 21st century take on the telly on a stick
And surely, if UTV are asking their viewers to suggest ident ideas, won't most of them get shown during the day when there's less potential of them being seen by those who may suggest them? Or can I be bold and suggest stuff the idents, let's have more in-vision continuity, including daytime shifts?
EDIT: So, if you submit a "U-dent", you get an on-screen credit (in glorious Arial too from the looks of it)? That's more than what most UTV staff have had for 18 years on the programmes they make themselves. And why on earth is John Kearns still voicing promotions at Havoc House? His voice gives me a headache. Bring back Hendy.*

There's a lot to be said for this idea. As they are retaining IVC and are thus going against the accepted orthodoxy, why not embrace the whole retro thing and produce one (or perhaps 2 or 3) really high quality idents only, and show them before news/serious programming as used to happen back when IVC was commonplace?
It'd achieve the effect of making the station look more up to date at less cost, and they'd stand out against the identikit idents present elsewhere that they seem so intent on making cheap copies of.
...but they never really follow through with regular, sustained use - which is a shame; it would work well these days; the current IVC backdrop could be easily adapted to include programme listings/video clips on the right-hand panel.
Or if you're talking about presenting talent in the één clip, what's wrong with our Gilly, Pammy and Rose? It would be good to see a few new faces* in Studio 3, male and female - a shame more use wasn't made of Marc while he was seconded to Studio 3, I doubt he'll be doing any further continuity work at Havoc House.
* - Or get Robin Taylor to do some relief shifts when he can... sorry, it's a nasty habit I'm developing
