Is there no end to the talent at UTV...

The new graphics would look great if UTV was more detailed, otherwise they just look so 90's. Also baffled why they used a cheap looking christmas ident stock video, when a similar, much better version that they used all the way back in 2003 when they used the networks snowflake background, which still looks new today and much more classy.

Nowt wrong with that.....

UTV is a small, provincial station. Why slavishly follow what everyone else is doing when it'll only end up looking like a poor relation anyway?

Much rather that than the coma-inducing blandness that is STV!

Well, it didn't stop them using network graphics before did it... years of it I remember...

Quite ... and they were wrong for doing so.

Ironically they took the ITV graphics when ITV were at their worst... celeb idents indeed!

UTV as it stands currently is far more distinctive than any other ITV1 variant -- so what if it's a little cheap.

Indeed, Jason. Looking back at the past decade, UTV have always underachieved with their on-screen presentation IMO - whether they've used network packages or not, and idents aside, this new package shows promise and a spark of confidence not seen since they ditched the Ulster Television branding.

I've heard from station sources, behind-the-scenes technical investment at Havelock House will take place this year, but I'm not aware of the specifics.

One hopes this upcoming investment may include announcers for daytime shifts and a few male journalists...

EDIT: Fantastic "comeback" IVC link just now from Gillian!

Finally got round to uploading some videos:

Arrow Idents

Arrow Promos

Arrow Breakbumpers

Arrow ECPs

A few others are available on my YouTube channel: IPP graphics, in-vision continuity backdrop, u.tv promos, UTV Player promos and new Brainbox graphics.

EDIT: Didn't realise embedding YouTube videos didn't work! It worked when I pressed Preview but when I pressed Submit it didn't!

EDIT AGAIN!: Just noticed that Rob has already posted a link to videos on the previous page! Embarassed

Presumably because whatever they used in 2003 wasn't in HD?

In addition, the "This is a commercial presentation..." spiel before BrainDead and the short sting between the end of UTV Live at Six and the 1827 weather also use the new 3D logo template.

The only presentation element left to be seen is a UTV production caption, which down the years seem to correlate with UTV's presentation package - and we'll have to wait until the next edition of "The Seven Thirty Show" to see if it they've made one with the new template. Unless there's things like programme change captions, news report captions, transmitter information captions, programme holding slides etc. also created and on standby that will get aired first...

They have only changed the side panel on the CSO backdrop:

Seriously?! Say what you like about their programming decisions of late, the STV branding is miles better than that of UTV and in some cases better than ITV1. The whole package fits well together and can be adapted well to integrate with their news and weather output, amongst other things. Bland it is not, especially when their Christmas idents were far superior to UTV's lackluster attempts and a little more cheery than the awfully dark looking ITV1 ones.

Starting to think you might just have something against STV now. How a channel that has effectively stuck its own logo over the ITV1 package for years and has a dull, basic boxed logo can be more distinctive is very questionable. And like it or loathe it, STV's schedule and overall branding is much more distinctive than the rest of the ITV Network. You are right about one thing though, UTV's does look a little cheap.
