Pleasantly impressive? Did you link to the wrong video...

Two 'stock' looping backgrounds and the usual old music. 160 credits on iStock?

I still reckon it's a half-decent effort compared to UTV's in-house Christmas ident packages in recent years.

And seeing it on screen, there are two black holes which appear on the background towards its end - which, to me, makes it looks like it's been shot inside someone's nose.

Their tagline makes it look soo cheap. It has to be one of the worst ever I have seen on anything.

Merry Christmas to U. They way the 'U' is in bold and big, it makes it feel like they saying "up yours".

Aidan Browne's in Studio 3 tonight! Wonder if we'll be seeing him in-vision or doing the Late News.

Following messages exchanged on Twitter between me and Stevie B, and Julian and Pamela, we've ascertained Gillian's on holiday for Christmas and Pamela's doing weather and U105 this week, so it'll be interesting to see who we get announcing on Monday to Wednesday over the Christmas fortnight.

Well, I was interested...

EDIT: No IVC, but Aidan did present the late news bulletin.

UTV have rolled out a new presentation package today.

Trails now feature a new form-up for the UTV logo at the start, and the end board features a large rotating 3D UTV logo in either blue, red or yellow.

Break bumpers feature a large rotating 3D logo like the trailer end board.

I've only seen one ident; no change to the Casio-produced jingle, but there's new films, the one I caught was shot in Ormeau Park in Belfast (they went far to film that, eh?) The UTV logo is now on the left hand side of the screen, the U bit appears first as part of a phrase (e.g. U slide to accompany footage of children sledging) and the 2006 bar is gone.

Best of all - Arial has been consigned to the dustbin in favour of the AvantGarde font! I'll try to get footage later.

Immediately very retro/dated.

Reminds me of the Tyne Tees 40th celebration ident that was used for one weekend back in 1999.

Thought the same. Think it aired for a whole 7 days actually, the irony being that a great deal more care was taken in its production than for the regular ident.

The animation doesn't appear very smooth?

It does look better on screen than the captures suggest; throughout the day, I've seen a series of trailer end board animations and break bumpers, which use red, blue and yellow lighting effects. It does seem this element of the new UTV package has been created with HD in mind. I can see why you may think the design looks retro and dated - but after UTV's efforts in the past few years, I'm welcoming the change.

Both the ECP and using similar backgrounds to trailer end boards and break bumpers. The IVC set has been updated as part of the refresh - while the "videowall" is still in the background, the side panel has changed from the blue waves panel to a transparent layer with a blue 3D U. The "It's all about U" legend has been dropped.

The one weak link for me, with more thought, is the idents, for numerous reasons:
Arrow They don't appear to fit in with the other elements of the package; there's no sight on 3D effects on them at all.
Arrow The films all feature snow so by the time it gets to Spring, the films will be unseasonal and in apparent need of an update - perhaps this is the intention of UTV's promo department.
Arrow More of a personal bugbear for me, but so far, all the ident films have come from the East of the Province - will we also be getting sequences representing the West?
This could have been an opportunity to ditch scenery films, or at least demote their focus in the ident films; I think the idea has become old-hat, in particularly when many other stations went with similar concepts.

Having seen a little more of the presentation, idents aside, it doesn't look too bad. Trailers...

How very erm... mid 90's. I suppose its an improvement on sloppy edits to ITV1 templates but its still dated. I would have probably used a different font though, doesn't quite work.

No matter what UTV do with their graphics, it'll still look dated with that logo.
