I have to agree with the most recent comments - STV definitely have the best identity of the three.

Far from being dull throughout, in places it is actually quite bright and upbeat. The ident with the guys doing skateboarding and bike tricks is the best all-round example of this - it has energetic visuals and music to match (in contrast to ITV1 and especially UTV, which by comparison haven't really produced anything that lively).

UTV's idea is nice, but it's nothing really special - someone did mention the ident footage is comparable to stock video, which I can understand.

Despite being an awfully wooden presenter, I think Paul Clark's job should be safe - I don't think there's an adequate male presenter ready to take over as lead male anchor just yet; Fearghal is much better suited as a reporter, and while Marc Mallett is still one for the future, I don't think he's been at UTV for long enough to assume the role.

UTV might end up doing an "stv" and moving to solo presentation, having just one anchor. It works well for stv, and saves money. Rolling Eyes Laughing

EDIT: Don't attempt to send them an email, just tried to myself and the email bounced back.

It does strike me that Ofcom is about as much use as tits on a bull.

It says something that it takes the threat of job cuts at UTV to get something Norn Irn's political parties can all agree on.

Meanwhile, TVC Holdings (neƩ Trinity Venture Capital), the venture capital company headed by Shane Reihill, whose uncle owns the TOP (Tedcastle's Oil, do you have them up north?) petrol station chain, has increased its shareholding in UTV to 18%.

Looks like UTV might go the way of TV3 and end up owned by venture capitalists...

And a rather bizarre trailer which I noticed last night with the tagline 'Watch your favourite programmes now and tomorrow':

How many voices are on that trailer? I can spot Eddie the Englishman, either Sarah Dobson or that Fulford woman, Marc Mallett, Tina Campbell and Paul Clark.

"This is your future" - not for those who are about to lose their jobs at Havoc House, it's not! Ironic UTV are putting this out when they are cutting jobs and regional programmes left, right and centre, it doesn't make it any sweeter for me.

A well-put together trailer though, and I'm sure Gary Lightbody will appreciate the PRS cheques every time UTV show it.

PS. Stephen, when are you going to update UTV Today again? Wink

December probably! I'm training to be a teacher and I'm out on teaching practice at the minute so I don't have a lot of spare time and any that I do have is used to prepare lesson plans! The next update will probably be the Christmas presentation whenever that starts airing. Then I might get a chance to do some other stuff when I'm off for my Christmas holidays.
