Marc Mallett was on duty again tonight and announcing in-vision once more. I've begun to notice a trend with his in-vision announcing; the first time he did it was on New Year's Day when UTV were showing no local news, the second time was a Sunday evening when the local news had already been shown (and presented by someone else) and now tonight when UTV again had no local news. Now either he has decided himself that he doesn't want to do in-vision when he has to read the news or the bigwigs at Havelock House have told him he's not allowed to. So by the looks of it we're never going to see in-vision announcing from Marc unless it's either a Bank Holiday or a Saturday or Sunday evening!

Could be. A shame though, as he does a good job with IVC - better than Julian in my opinion. I doubt we'll get any clarification on what the policy is re: IVC at Havelock House, though.
I wonder if UTV News staff only were to read all news bulletins, would it lead to the current continuity team appearing more often in-vision? Could be the key to seeing more of Gillian Porter and Robin Taylor (a shame as they combine the announcer/newsreader role effectively), but it could lead to having to clearly define whether Sarah Dobson and Marc are UTV News staff or UTV presentation staff...

There's a kind of Ofcom rule that's in place about news readers appearing outside of other non-news programming.
As they're 'trustworthy and reliable' (the newsreaders that is), it could be perceived that if they are endorsing programming which is sponsored, then the news reader is endorsing that particular product.
Daft I know.
That's why you never see (or should never rather!) news presenters during sponsored programming such as weather. Quite how Mike and Linda got away with it on their home programme is beyond me!

I'd say Marc may choose only to do in-vision on any shifts where he isn't required to read any news bulletins as he comes from a journalism background - thinking about it, it may also avoid a clash with the NUJ Code of Conduct, especially if he is a NUJ member. This may also apply to Sarah Dobson and Lynda Wilson, I know Sarah also has a background in broadcast journalism; Lynda I am not sure about.
Perhaps the Ofcom and NUJ principles may not necessarily apply at least to Julian, Gillian, Robin and Aidan; given they are arguably better known as continuity announcers rather than newsreaders - or it may be their employment contracts are with UTV's presentation department instead of UTV News. That may explain how UTV have got away with Robin Taylor doing a news bulletin and then straight afterwards, doing a weather forecast in-vision (even though it is still a bit iffy.)
