Gerry Kelly is 59, so he would probably would have been retiring in the next few years anyway. I'd have thought someone like Paul Clark would have been the next to leave myself.

Been doing a bit of research to flesh out some of the UTV articles on Wikipedia, and here are some of the strange things I've come across in various archived news articles and features:

- Since leaving UTV in December 2006, Kate Smith (who married Michael Deane in 1997) now runs the occasional media skills workshop at the University of Ulster in Coleraine, and she is also now a member of the Northern Ireland Screen committee

- Paul Clark's middle name is Thompson, and his eldest son has the same middle name

- Mike Nesbitt, who supports West Ham United, was an international athlete before becoming a journalist

- Frank Mitchell used to be a English teacher in Warrenpoint and Newry before becoming a broadcaster

- Alison Fleming is 37 in the summer (and if she took her husband's surname on screen she would be Alison Heavern), Tina Campbell (or Tina Ballantine!) turns 38 in either March or April (she's a Pisces), Lynda Bryans (or Lynda Nesbitt) is 46 or 47, and Pamela Ballantine (née Rolston) turns 50 in October!

- Finally, the first three announcers at UTV were Adrienne McGuill (later Catherwood, and mother of Andrea), James Greene and Brian Durkin

Writing was pretty much on the wall after "Kelly" was axed. But where can he go? Do BBC NI have any room for him?

The article says Gerry is currently working on his autobiography. He also has his own production company, so I'm certain it's not the end of his career in TV, whether in front of, or behind, the camera. In fact, he could still do the odd special for UTV, but it would not be an in-house production.

UTV have started airing a trailer detailing the changes to Sunday night's lineup using the tagline "New for U". The animation at the end is quite nice although obviously you can't see it here!

I like the end board design used on that trailer, but I think the fonts look a bit messy for some reason. At least they aren't Arial, though Wink

Seems UTV have butchered the News at Ten promo and inserted Lynda Bryans mid-way through!
