UTV launches new idents

I'm quite surprised UTV haven't brought their "da da daa..." jingle back for these new idents.

Oh hell yeah!

The lollipop ident should be used (it was on for about 40 years anyway!)

and besides, anything is better than the current ITV1 idents... (apart from the BBC1 idents mind)

What I dont undrestand is why they are using the itv1 music at all. Where Scottish & Grampian have created their own music, they could have just reworked the UTV pre 2002 ident tune.

Hmm, well I'm warming to them, but it is blatant that the 2002 ITV music just *doesn't go*. Most of them have that same theme [godawful Martin Kemp one that was used before the news every day in Carlton regions at one time].

I think the previous music would be loads better, it had like bird noises and kids laughter etc, relevant to the scene -- it would be more suitable anyway.

Don't know how many there are, I've seen seven apparently ~

Give me something without celebrities after all this time, and I end up watching UTV..! So bored am I of them all.

Also -- Isn't it strange that Northern Ireland have elections on Wednesday but the election programmes aren't until Thursday? Wales just went from 11pm til 6am that evening.

That's because the counting doesn't start on the night - it starts the next morning. And with proportional representation (in this case STV - Single Transferable Vote) being used, the final results may not be known until well into Friday!

Talking about UTV, whats with that previews thing they do at 3.10pm. A presenter just links into a few of tonight's trailers!

All the ones I have seen have either the long or short version of the Martin Kemp theme. Which other music have you heard then if you say you have heard at least 2 different ones?

Also today, the worst UTV ident I have seen so far is a still close up on some dirty Cow or some sort of animal for the whole time of the long music, then zooming out at the right bit in the tune. That’s such a c*ap ident. Who else has seen that one? At least the ones of some nice landscape look better.

I am worming to them a little bit. Its good the black bits are on them, otherwise the idents would look EVEN worse. Some do look like a camcorder was used!

If UTV did not like the network celebs, then they should have just stuck with the 10 or so local ones. Those would have been better than nothing, even if the logo does appear way TOO early!

The UTV logo came on early on the celebs old celebs ones, but now itv1's logo forms up at the start of the ident.

I think the Enniskillen one has the other music. The same as the Trevor McDonald of old, IIRC.

The cow one sounds fab. Shame HTV didn't get eaten by UN&M, then Granada, then Carlton, then LNN [effectively] -- Northern Ireland's a beautiful place but UTV sure aren't making it apparent. HTV would make some nice scenes I reckon.

It's more that the only ever seem to show short versions of the idents now.

That's Pick of the Day, it used to be on before UTV Live at 5:30. An attempt at UTV to hide the fact they don't have any continuity until 7:00pm.

Bascially one of the announcers (usually Audra Thomas but Robin Taylor seems to be doing it this week) doing a rundown of the evening schedules and working around two or three trailers.

Usually the same trailers that are shown at the other side of the junction
