Brilliant bit of strategic scheduling by TV3 against it with the first episode of the new series Broadchurch at the same time.

What the? So TV3 is showing Broadchurch at 10pm, not 9pm? Is there any reason why they can't show it at the same time as ITV?

The post above explains it all.

Actually got me wondering - are viewers in the Republic able to manually tune in the regional UK ITV feeds on sky ?

Irish Stations are blocked, but if you tune in RTE1 or RTE2 on your other channels you can access the full Aertel Teletext service.

Sounds a silly question then but I'll ask it anyway, if Irish viewers are able to get Regional ITV feeds on Sky, then why can't we get any of their channels over here?

Copyright. Irish Stations buy the rights to Ireland and Ireland alone. They wouldn't be able to afford UK rights. That's why you get shows like Breaking Bad, True Blood etc on TG4 and Mad Men on RTE2.

At the same time UK TV stations usually own the rights to UK and Ireland, or aren't directly broadcasting to Ireland, but Those that own copyright don't mind the overspill into the Republic.

On top of all that an agreement was made a few years ago that UK PSB stations should be available in the republic and that RTE and TG4 should be available in Northern Ireland. In fact if you have a NI SKY sub you get RTE1, RTE2 and TG4.

Plus on top of that RTE and TG4 are also on Freeview in Northern Ireland.

The latest UTV Ireland news release gives us a hint of what the set will look like. My initial predictions are that the studio is going to look great but the titles/graphics will look poor (the logo looks a bit naff). Of course I may be completely wrong!
