If it was actually an ident and not just a breakbumper it would be nice.
I can't really understand what has motivated them to do this. They ditched an existing ident set (and quite a nice one at that) that was less than 2 years old in favour of corporate idents which they've now all but dropped in favour of a single badly hacked together ident consisting of the breakbumper with music which doesn't fit properly applied to it.
Why? If they like the corporate look, then they should have stuck with it. If they don't like it, then they should have gone back to what they had before.
I'm generally very unimpressed with UTV's presentation. It's technical standards are awful, the graphics are dull and uninspiring and they don't have announcers outside of evenings. 'Ah but they have IVC' I hear people cry. Well yes they do, and if it was their main presentation method then I'd forgive them. But UTV IVC consists of a handful of in vision links which can only be guaranteed on a Friday and Saturday night. IMO, that does not make up for them having absolutely p*ss poor presentation the rest of the time.

Am I watching UTV at the wrong times or something or are they a little obsessed with the ITV2 New look promo (The one with the good music and the people flipping the boards around). Everytime I put the blinking Channel on (Including today at 3pm) They are always showing the Flip:Side promo.
Any avid UTVer's, Do you see it a lot too?
Did STV and Grampian ever show it when it was relevant or have they never bothered with ITV2?

That flip:side trailer is the only one UTV seem to show regarding ITV2. They don't for example promote the live Rugby World Cup games which are on ITV2. Then again, it's probably a commercial decision. ITV2 is owned by Granada/Carlton which UTV is not a part - in effect driving viewers to ITV2 is driving them away from UTV's adverts... much like C4, and we don't get any C4 ads on ITV nowadays do we?

A few years ago ITV always had to cross promote whatever was on Channel 4 at 8pm - on one occasion I heard Julian come out with the most half hearted promotion ever...
"On Channel 4 now a documentary, while here on UTV sparkling brand new comedy with a host of stars (etc)..."

As to UTV graphics, don't get me started on them. Just be glad you don't have to deal with them. Programme makers are aware of how pi** poor the graphics can be, not centred, horrid font, all over the place, or even spelt wrong, even throwing lots of money at a Flame and a few Aston Reds doesn't help!
Tiles and stuff from the Flame are nice, but any captions and astons are just well.... crap.
It's got to the point where you can spot who did them!

Perhaps as a compensation for a lack of continuity. I noticed yesterday that they played the Sweet Medicine trailer during Audra's Pick of the Day, only for the same bloody trailer to be shown at the other end of the junction!
btw, How do UTV continuity shifts work now? I never hear CAs on duty any day before 7pm, although when I met Julian Simmons he mentioned that the late continuity shift at UTV runs from 4pm (hence you would expect to hear the on-duty announcer from 5:00 onwards) to 11pm.

Audra's Pick of the Day isn't a bad idea (although to me it just reads "here's a different way to string together 5 trailers") - my my, we're almost getting back to The Day Ahead which was billed at 9.25 every morning. Quite what it was apart from Frank Mitchell or whoever running through the TV Times listings, I'm not quite sure!

Yes, I think it would be very easy to turn around UTV. Personally I don’t think UTV should bother with Celeb idents. Just have 5 really good Generic ones (And get rid of the crap Blue break bumper one) and the channel would look good already. A few more things UTV need to brush up on (also STV and Grampian take note). Please have a Break bumper before EVERY ad break. Now and again is not good enough. It just looks messy with no Break bumper. If GMG North can do it then I think UTV /STV etc should. Also, Not sure if UTV do this anymore, but when changing the ITV Trailers, don’t bother with the 3 blue 1 yellow boxes dashing off the screen. Just have the UTV logo in place, or shoot in from the side or something. Finally if UTV had decent continuity from AM - PM it would be a vast improvement to the channel.
