My idea would be UMG - standing for "U" Media Group

I would have thought something on the lines of The Ulster & Scottish Media Group, I can't see it staying as UTV/SMG or anything like that for long. Or you never know they could drop that altogether, who knows.

that why I suggested: Celtic media group

as Celtic cover both Scotland and Ireland

They own radio stations in England though, so I can't see them going with anything like that. UTV is generic at the moment because what the U stands for is never mentioned

Well we know it used to stand for Ulster, and I should imagine many non-pres people and that know that too. It wouldn't be much good anymore

I know what you mean, but I can still see Larkhall and large parts of the west of Scotland switching off... Rolling Eyes

I can see a BskyB style cop-out, where the station in effect gets a bigger name but is known on air as UTV. The company will want to cross-promote its website etc. And most people in Scotland will not knock what the 'U' stands for.

Why does it have to mention a geographical sort of name at all? Why not make up a word?

Well they could say (like they did when they murdered off the Grampian brand) that the 'U' can stand for anything you want it to stand for.

We were told in North Scotland that the new 'S' in stv stood for what we wanted it to stand for although in South Scotland they were saying welcome back to the old name.....good old STV - talk about two faced double standards eh????

Not quite Barney .I would love to welcome STV down here in South Scotland.Sadly we are stuck with ITV 1 Border which is just an after thought for the viewers in South Scotland.

Actually having looked into it Celtic Media Group has been 'baggsied' (as we say up here), as it is a subsidiary of Clyde and Forth Press, owners of several newspapers up here.

Next. Very Happy
