So when making the UTV version, they have flipped the video around for some unknown reason?

I suspect that has been done to avoid the "tv" circle element of the UTV logo obscuring the artist on stage.

The original ITV version just about gets away with it.

Nice ident though, not seen that one before. Reminds me of the BBC1 Festival ident from the Dancers era.

It just surprises me that they actually put a little bit of thought and effort into making the UTV versions of the idents, with these little bits of attention to detail. I rightly or wrongly just presumed it was take an ITV ident, slap a UTV logo on it, move on to making the next one.

Don't worry, you've got plenty of opportunities to see it between now and Christmas. It'll be broadcast almost every weeknight in the 7:30pm slot following the UTV strict ident loop!

Shame they don't just hire a proper studio with a nice background view of Belfast lough

Is this actually even a vague expectation? They have a perfect, cost effective set up now. They were never going to hire a separate studio just for UTV Life.

No. More a nice to have. I never said it was an expectation of mine.

A really small detail but the old U part of the UTV logo is officially disused by both UTV and U105 now.

U105 have changed their logo that looks very 90's.

The extension of the "ITV Creates" weekly artworks for another year got me thinking, what (if anything) might this mean for UTV?

I suspect that the status quo of UTV continuing to use the same current "old ITV style" idents for yet another sodding year is almost certain. Rolling Eyes Which I consider to be a woefully inadequate state of affairs. Thumbs down

Unless the "UTV" name is about to be dropped, or the next 52 artists will each produce 2 artworks (ITV and UTV logos, obv) - both unlikely possibilities, to say the least - then I highly doubt that anything will change for NI viewers of LCN3/103 until at least January 2021. More's the pity.

An affordable solution would be to produce just one simple 3D object version of the U(tv) logo - made in-house, not by an artist - and film numerous different idents of it (with e.g. different lighting etc) against the same kind of stark white surroundings as the ITV Creates artworks, which could then be used as the all-year-round ident set.

Accompanied by the same soundtracks as the ITV Creates idents, it would at least give UTV the same general "feel" as the rest of ITV plc land. But I'm sure there's more chance of Nigel Farage converting to Islam, though.

I was told there were gonna film idents in Northern Ireland for utv before the 2016 rebrand

My opinion is that ITV don't really care about UTV as long as it is running properly, they don't really care about the idents and presentation - this was the thinking back in 2016 when they changed the logo and presentation style.

They are very content with UTV plodding along in its own dull and boring path, and I doubt they will change anything in 2020.

Indeed. That was announced around the time of the ITV plc takeover, but never materialised.

Something like the first ITV Creates ident would work. Footage of Northern Irish scenery projected onto a 3D logo. They could even just recycle footage from previous UTV idents, as they've used scenery idents before. The news safe version would just be lit up, no footage.

However, they'll probably just stick with what they're currently using, you're right.
