Well, when we know what's happening after the last of the 52 weekly ITV Creates ident packages has aired, we'll have more knowledge about UTV's future as well. If ITV's logo changes, then UTV is probably going away, but if they just launch new long term idents and keep the logo and surrounding presentation, then maybe they'll do a UTV version. They haven't bothered with a UTV version of the ITV Creates idents, but that's probably because it would be double the work for the artists, and the previous idents weren't so stale in NI anyway because they'd changed over to them a few years after they launched in England and Wales.

It's feasible that retaining the separate UTV name for at least long enough to see the 60th anniversary come and go was always the intention, but with the potential to drop it at any point thereafter.

No doubt there'll be special celebratory feature items in UTV Live during the anniversary week itself. To then rebrand as ITV, say, the very following week would be too jarring. But rebranding about 8 weeks later (coinciding with the end of the ITV Creates idents) would seem logical.

We'll just have to wait and see.

There's been no evidence of a want to rename the station.

EDIT: Beaten to it! Mad we managed to type in the same minute with more or less the same words.

I'm careful to use words like "potential" and have previously posted using wording somewhere along the lines of "any rebrand plans that may exist" / "...may or may not be planned" or similar.

Thus making it clear that I'm speaking hypothetically, and not making any assumptions about how "definite" any eventual renaming plans may be.

And yet I'm still greeted by arrogant "here we go again" type comments. What a thoroughly unpleasant place this forum can be. Rolling Eyes

The thing is, even hypothetically such a thing would never happen.

Do you even know what hypothetically means?

There is lots of logical reasons why people believe it will happen eventually, based on things that have happened based k. the last 20 years of commercial broadcasting history. There are reasons why they might leave UTV as it is too and if they were going to do it, wouldn’t they have done it by now?

It may just be the current management doesn’t want to do it, but that’s not to say that won’t change at some point in the future.

There’s literally been zero evidence of any desire to rename UTV to ITV.

Not only has there been no evidence of a move to rename UTV, but ITV also used it on the set of the Leadership Debate a few weeks ago. So using the logic of those that keep saying the name will go in the autumn and the new year, ITV are actually even more committed to the name.

This October will be the 4th anniversary of the rumour that the UTV name will be gone in a few weeks time. It's quite possible that they might get rid of the name, but it would be a very foolish move causing trouble when it's not needed. No doubt some will say that they told us so, but Even a broken clock is right at least once and a while.

How can you be so sure that it will never happen?

The management or ownership of ITV could change and decide to ditch the UTV brand, or ITV itself might even rebrand at some point.

Look at what happened to TV3 after being taken over by Virgin Media. There's no guarantee that something similar won't happen to ITV at some point in the future.
