Right - I have contacted UTV and put the statements that have been made here on TV Forum to them, and have asked for a response. If/once I receive one I will put it on here, and maybe this will end the constant moaning about idents on UTV.

Let us see now if UTV respond. It is all very well moaning about them, but if you do not bother to contact them, then it is of no use.

I very much welcome and thank you for taking it upon yourself to contact UTV and/or ITV, and hope we gain a response from them.

I'm assuming its ITV viewer enquires you have contacted as I dont see any way of contacting UTV directly anymore?

There's an email address for UTV News.

I'm guessing the only other way of contacting UTV directly would be via Facebook or Twitter.

*cringe* - I can just imagine the Duty Office trying to figure out what/how to respond to that. Errr....just send a generic reply

Talk about whinging for the sake of whinging.

Moaning about a channel which has 'just' EIGHT idents. EIGHT! There are many channels that have less, and ITV itself screens less than a handful each week at the moment.

If you didn't know how many idents ITV had from 2013-2018 you'd be none the wiser.

Indeed, channels like W only has 3 'main' idents.

I have contacted UTV through a friend I know works there, I knew it would be useless going to the ITV Duty Office and UTV does not have a general email, so thankfully I know a friend who works there. They have passed it on.

Just wondered if anyone at UTV has bothered to reply to your query??

Maybe an email to our Julian might be whats needed to prompt some action??

Hi, I did get a reply, but it was the usual civil service speak. They told me the channel is happy with the ident package they currently have, and since these idents were only introduced in October 2016, they decided to hand pick a selected few and use them on UTV.

The key bit of the reply was when they said October 2019 is a very important date, as they celebrate 60 years of UTV, and viewers can expect something "special" in terms of presentation for that anniversary.

“Civil service speak” Rolling Eyes just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t make it less valid.

Pleased to hear they will be marking their 60th anniversary with something special.

Think yourself lucky that your query wasn't filed in the big automated filing cabinet in the corner of the room.

They may be happy with the ident package, and fair enough they have only been on air in NI for around 2.5 years so still got a bit more life in them before they become stale, and yes to an extent I'm happy with them....but why for the love of God do they have to play them out in the same order loop day in day out...that's the main annoyance for me. Why not just play them in a random order?....surely that's not too much hard work for leeds/London playout, few clicks of the mouse. 20 seconds...job done.

For anyone why may be interested, currently the loop is windy beach, lamb, bowling alley, florist, rubber ducks....then it's back to windy beach again and so on.

The exceptions are if it's news it's gymnasts feet, or if there is any kind of warning it's pigeons.

I have noted a few 'playout errors' recently whereby News at Ten had windy beach used on 2 different evenings...clearly a error by playout as even tho windy beach should have been next in the loop, as it was news, then Gymnastics should have 'overruled' the ident loop. And welders has been used for a 'warning' ident when it should have been pigeons...but apart from these minor cock ups it's been business as usual with groundhog day.

I noticed this current loop batch of idents started in April, so expecting them till end of June. Janurary to March was a different batch of 6 but still played in the same order each day without fail.

Before my head gets bitten off, I'm not complaining about the lack of variety of UTV idents, I'm just merely pointing out my observations as a daily viewer, i.e. the loop ident pattern, something you cannot accurately call out on BBC One for example. Thank you.
