I suppose I should. After all, he leaves effort alone.
I don't understand this constant criticism of Julian? The good folk of Northern Ireland enjoy his presence on UTV and his witty Corrie announcements.
It's nine months since I criticised his Emmerdale voice over, hardly constant.
I have no issue with his Corrie announcements (though I know plenty of good folk here in Northern Ireland who find them cringe worthy).
It's the lack of effort on the rest of his announcements that I take issue with.
Julian's in-vision announcements were anything but bland.
Those sort of announcements wouldn't work out of vision, which is why he's had to change his style since the end of IVC, and some would say his voice and style don't really suit out of vision announcements.

Can we really call recycling the same scripts word-for-word, week-on-week, month-on-month a style?

I have been following UTV presentation for decades. The majority of Julian's scripts (excluding his Coronation Street and Prisoner Cell Block H links) have always been bland. His scripts haven't really changed much since he went OoV. Most people on here know him for those dreadful Corrie links he does. Away from those links, his scripts have always been quite dull.
The example provided by denton is quite typical of what he does. In most other industries, a member of staff that puts such little effort into their work would be out on their ear.
I'd say Julian has had his time in the limelight. Time to move over and let someone else have a go - I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who would really appreciate such a role and would put a lot of energy into it.
If creating new idents for UTV was too costly, maybe open the door to give prospective voiceover artists a try out instead,
Is he actually recording a new link each week though or is it just the same one being repeated? I seem to remember UTV having form with this and for years the same recorded VO about the news from ITN coming up next at a certain point each day (or something similar) - on the Ident Gallery there are certainly a few videos of the current idents where the same VO recording has been used.
I'm still surprised Dave Johnson and his female NI-accented counterpart haven't yet become the eventual shoe-ins for Jules and Gilly some of us expected them to be.
Part of the problem is a resistance to change in how things work in NI - for their critics, UTV talent has more fans, and any threat to play around too much with the status quo, especially from decision-makers in London, wouldn't be taken kindly.
Or perhaps ITV has learnt from past experience, and what's more, actually gets how sensitive us Norn Iron folk get about everything.

Trailers have started airing for a new series of ‘Rewind with Julian’ starting on Tuesday 19th February and airing in the 7:30pm slot. From the clips in the trailer it seems to be a different format from the previous version but still using clips from the archive and still fronted by Julian Simmons. Found this article about it here:
