I didn't see any Santa update. I think it's more Julian's thing. Disappointing.
Or a relief, depending on your perspective.
Again each to their own. I have never heard a bad word about Julian when visiting family and friends over in the province. Everyone saying they love it!

When the Santa Updates were surprisingly retained for 2016 despite general IVC having disappeared a few months prior, I had wondered how many years that last remnant of (sort-of) IVC would remain. Clearly, the answer is just two!
Given all the obvious "UTV name to disappear on NYD 2019?" speculation generated by the recent ITV branding announcement, I had started wondering whether or not 2018 would be a 3rd-and-final year of the Santa Updates' stay of exection. Well, now we know the answer!
I wonder at exactly what point the decision to finally drop them was made? Would Julian perhaps have known of this decision, even when he was recording his 2017 ones?

I suspect the decision was taken much more recently. As the continuity, and the Santa updates, were pre-recorded (as far as I can tell), I doubt Julian’s availability was a factor. More likely the decision that there would be no IVC or Santa updates could be the reason Julian decided not to be the “duty announcer” last night.

Were the 2016 and 2017 Santa Updates shown in "trailer airtime" as opposed to "ident airtime"?
Also, did they contain any references to the immediately surrounding programme schedule for their respective broadcast slots, or were they totally generic Santa info only?
Dependant on the answers to those questions, they arguably weren't "true" IVC. (Presenter being "in-vision", yes. "Continuity" as such, no)
