Any news on the ITV1 Christmas idents? I bet they'll show the logo hiding behind Christmas trees and perhaps they could do the trick they did last year where the 1 multiplies and rotates to make it look like a snowflake.

Looking at the itv1 christmas trails (see this thread) itv1's idents will almost certainly have sparkles coming from the '1'

And UTV idents are gr8.Way better than the boring ITV ones and UTV are one of only two who were able to keep there own name.

I'm saddened greatly by that revelation.

I don't see how them being "local" makes them good. I know most of us here would like the return of regional idents but this is just some stock footage stuck inside an endboard.

STV use scenes of Scotland where the people pass around the logo.

Why couldn't UTV at least post produce their idents, have a full screen shot of the place and have something happening ala the ITV idents? Are they really that cheap?

I don't agree at all.

New ident today featuring Derry City. This one was obviously an afterthought because it doesn't animate in the same way as the others. The other ones have the "you're home" text animate on at the start, then when the sparkles pass over it, it changes to the tagline "your home for christmas". However this one doesn't have the "you're home" text. "your home" stays on throughout, with "for christmas" fading on later.

The "home" line is one that amused me.

"Your Home" meant that your home for Christmas (entertainment?) as in UTV.

"You're Home" meant that You *are* home for Christmas. What if you lived in Belfast already and were at home, then it didn't really make sense.

It's like there was a typo and they changed their mind. I know it made me think twice about what it exactly meant!

It's the same line that was used on BBC Radio Ulster 3 years ago, except that when it's used on radio the "your/you're" is ambiguous and so it makes sense for everyone. When you write it down it starts to become a little nonsensical, in the same way a joke loses it's comedy value when you have to explain it.

Not too keen on UTV's idents really. I think the footage being boxed in trail-style, is my main gripe.

I do think STV have the best of the bunch right now in terms of both visuals and audio.

I stand corrected about the Derry City ident. "You're home" does appear but changes to "Your home" before the sparkle animation, unlike the others.

This has also started airing on UTV; loving the logo, wonder how long it took them to do that!

Hands up who remembers the music! I believe this isn't the first time it's been reused!

Just seen the UTV Christmas-style break bumper - nice of them to pay tribute to Southern Television 25 years after they lost their franchise! Wink

That's just a happy coincidence - it was probably designed by some meeja graduate not even born when Southern went down the tubes...
