UTV agony aunt problems

The “ever changing” face of UTV Thread (April 2005)

In terms of announcers being newsreaders/weather presenters/voiceovers on trailers and local ads - I actually don't mind that, it gives the announcing team something more to do than say "Now on UTV, Emmerdale"/"Tonight with Trevor McDonald is on your screens in 30 minutes, that's coming right up after Coronation Street"/"But NA-H on tha Ewe-Tee-Vee...". I still wish the local PowerPoint ads were read out live with backing music though... Smile

I know for a fact Julian hates having to read/present the news and weather, when I met him a few years ago he said he didn't have the right kind of personality to do a serious news bulletin. Then again, can you imagine Letitia Fitzpatrick-Gwynne, or Tracey Magee, doing the weather in-vision on a Friday night?

Talking about the weather, in a way it's more or less a given that UTV are getting their announcers to present the weather bulletins in-vision. when UTV started having in-vision weather presenters in 1993, Frank Mitchell was still a CA, and when he was on holiday, Gillian Porter and Tina Campbell covered his shifts while they. Audra Cunningham-Thomas also presented in-vision in the early 2000s, usually when Tina or Frank weren't presenting UTV Life (which begs the question - how come Pamela Ballantine has never do the weather in-vision?).

Also, why UTV have never used a Met Office presenter is beyond me; when they do reports on weather conditions, they interview staff at the Belfast Met Office (usually John Wylie and Declan Teague, ironically both have presented the weather on BBC Newsline!) rather than have Frank sitting there explaining the science.

Oh come on Col, you know better than that - it'd cost money!

Has anyone had a tour of UTV? If you have, you would of noticed that ever space on the walls are covered in paintings or pictures... when I was at work experience, the guy who showed me around give me a lecture about these paintings, and, UTV enjoyed going to Auctions and buying them!... and from looking at them, I doubt they would be cheep. You would think they could of spent some of that cash on decent presentation.
