When on earth will UTV stop thinking about and get some new continuity announcers who can work a day shift and don't have a sideline career?!?

i think that continuity during the day would be a good idea, but they also need some descent presentation, the idents are not too bad, but they should look similar, and bring back the old UTV Music.

No! Rolling Eyes I really hate the old tune of that Music - It drives me mad... Lets get some new original stuff, UTV tend to copy alot of stuff, and really doesn't have its own Unique apearence.

I don't mind the landscape idents too much, but like Roy said earlier, I wish UTV were consistent about the size of the text scrolling along the top, and the two new idents I noticed when I last back home have a different UTV logo to the rest of the ident set.

And come to think of it, I think UTV should give its continuity team an update. There have been no changes to the team for eight years or so now, and it's obvious that some of the announcers sound bored and listless on screen.

I would keep Gillian Porter on, perhaps appoint her as senior announcer if she is not in that role already, as she appears to work the most shifts, but allow her more scope doing voiceovers and allow her to do more in-vision.

Aidan Browne and Robin Taylor - I would probably retain them as holiday and weekend relief announcers, so as it doesn't clash with their full-time jobs.

Audra Thomas - sorry to say this, but I'd axe our Audra as an announcer and move her to become UTV's resident hairdresser.

And finally, Julian - 21 years at UTV, still popular and weekends wouldn't be the same without his Corrie links, and his links seem to have had effort put into them, but from any recent links I've seen with Julian, he makes too many mistakes and has even stopped keeping eye contact with the camera. I'd still hang on to him though, as a popular asset and probably the key to retaining IVC links on UTV.

Finally, I'd recruit at least four new announcers, a mix of male and female, who can perfom daytime shifts and evening shifts if necessary, as well as reading the news/ad voiceovers etc., perhaps also allowing all the announcing team opportunities to present other things on UTV like they have done in the past.

Gillian's just popped up to do the weather, Frank Mitchell stylee, in-vision. A first, surely... since we only ever get an in-vision forecast during the weekday UTV Live?

Was she on screen during the whole of the forecast?

I remember a few years ago, the newsreader/announcer who read the preceding bulletin would pop up in vision over the first weather slide if it was a weather warning.

Can anyone please provide a cap if Gilly appears in vision doing the weather later if possible? First time she's been seen rather than heard doing the weather for a good few years. Cheers Smile

Yep, she was indeed. It looked pre-rec'd but presumably from their continuity set.

Not from in front of a Picturebox menu screen then?

Heehee, no. That was last night during Julian's live Watch to Win.*

(* I'm reliably informed).

I even think he's a bit past it now. Most of his links are dominated by Watch to Win competitions, and then when he gets round to announcing the programme its done in a very scripted boring way as if he's reading an autocue with lots of very generic stock phrases instead of actually thinking about something original to say

Julian popped up in-vision during the 10.55pm weather on one evening this week. He was clearly uncomfortable.

As you know tonight's Saturday Takeaway was pre-recorded. To get round the fact that they couldn't have anyone on the phone during the competition, they superimposed the names of the winners live on the output, with Ant and Dec pointing at the screen where the names were.

Or weren't, in the case of UTV. Their clean feed didn't have the graphics on them, which looked very silly with Ant and Dec pointing into mid air with a "ding" noise which was the graphics cue...
