I apologise in advance for all the clips because they might take a while to load, but hey, there are people here who can't get UTV so this is for their benefit!

Firstly, another promo, this must be the last one because I haven't seen any new ones for a few days now:

A promo for UTV at 50, the series of programmes starting on Saturday:

Is it just my memory decieving me, or are the idents above featuring the 1993 logo being played out with a different soundtrack - I don't recall it pettering out before what later became known as the signature UTV Jingle making its appearance. In fact, given how much UTV love that jingle (I recall one year they sent either Gerry Kelly or Julian Simmons around to businesses and got the staff singing it) it seems an odd move.

The ident from the 1996 set is definitely with the wrong soundtrack - that's the (beginning of, at least) 1993 soundtrack that Julian is talking over...

I actually thought that myself but wasn't sure! There's definitely a bit missing from the end of each of the soundtracks. Unless maybe they've been edited to make them easier to talk over? That piece of music on the end sounds like something out of Lesser Spotted Ulster!

The Freddie Starr/Gloria Hunniford clip in the promo looks like it was lifted from "Get It Right Next Time" with the audience laughter.

The 1993 roadsweeper, carpet and "Your TV" idents definitely have a different jingle, but the rose petals ident did use that version of the 1993 soundtrack; the roadsweeper and carpet ones had tin whistle parts at the end playing the "UTV jingle" and you could hear dialogue from those who appeared in each ident.

Great to see them those 1993 idents again though, reminds me of how radical and modern the Year Zero relaunch was, never mind its complete consistency even down to the in-vision continuity set. Definitely the best on-screen presentation UTV ever had. Shocking to think UTV only kept the "Your TV" ident out of that lot after a few months as its daily start-up.

That 2000 ident, which also has the wrong jingle (I do have the proper jingle from that ident archived thanks to Peterrocket!), was, ironically, one of the ones that went out after the conversion to widescreen presentation, and it's also the one that uses footage from the TV You idents - that takes me back to the old days on MHP.

And at least out of the 2003 idents, they picked one of the few ones with the ITV 2002 "newsreaders" jingle - and at least it wasn't the version with the redubbed Bontempi organ soundtrack.

I'm surprised how much weight UTV are throwing behind this 50th anniversary; it's been well prepared and well executed, so well done to them from me. Looking forward to the documentaries.

The last ten minutes of tonight's "The Seven Thirty Show" featured Paul Clark and Anne Hailes in the studio talking about 50 years of UTV; they showed the promo video which is already on the UTV Archive website, as well as this:

*

A 24-year-old Paul introducing an edition of "Milestones or Millstones" in 1979!

The same programme, and this screen grab speaks for itself:

And he was only reading the news this lunchtime, he was.

Lots of UTV 50 related galleries now on the UTV website, including screen-caps of idents from the master tapes and photos of UTV presenters and programmes past and present.

The presenters gallery is my favourite; it has an image of the six original presenters at the station, Frank Mitchell in a 1990s paisley pattern shirt, and best of all, Eamonn Holmes in a big-collared leather jacket!

More UTV50 news: next week on UTV Live Tonight, they will be interviewing the guest presenters who are doing one day each on that evening's UTV Live. They have used what ITV News did in 2005 to the letter.

Which does mean Eamonn Holmes gets missed out next Friday; then again, he's usually somewhere else in Belfast on a Friday night Wink

Does anyone know if Gordon Burns is off from North West Tonight at the moment? Unless there's some pre-recording going on, I can't imagine he'll be doing both programmes. Laughing

According to his Twitter, Gordon was hosting North West Tonight this evening, although I'm sure someone from the North West can tell us if he mentioned what he was up to next week.

I doubt UTV Live will be pre-recorded on Monday or on any evening next week though, if that was the case they'd have to get it in the can early in the morning so he would get back to Oxford Road in time for 6.30pm. Besides, as I inferred a few message ago, Gordon will also be on UTV Live Tonight at 10.30pm on Monday talking about his memories of UTV and subsequent career - they may do a pre-record on that, though.

Meanwhile, the UPlayer version of UTV Live include the anniversary ident before tonight's UTV Live.

The second half of UTV Live was mainly devoted to the 50th anniversary. The first half was too dominated by baby stories, though.

There was a nice bit during a Jamie Delargy report showing a report from the 1991 franchise era:

*

As well as a featuring role for the first edition of "TV Post" - which you can view a selection of pages of here.

*

And who said Central was the only ITV company to have its cake and eat it too?
