I would like to know if anybody has any information about the YTV Series How We Used To Live.

The series was made in different parts of West Yorkshire, in particular Luddenden.

I want to know if anybody knows where other parts of the series were filmed.

Also, does anybody have any books, vidoes or anything at all to do with the series.

If anybody could help please e-mai me :-

I have tried YTV but they only have basic details of locations.

I hope somebody can please help me.

I know the series has been made for years and years and was part of ITV Schools in the 1980s/1990s and was then shown as part of Channel 4 schools. I think it might still be shown on C4?

This is an odd little topic isn't it ? It has a poll attached to it that is unrelated to the subject. Rolling Eyes

It's also the only schools programme to be pitched to non-schools audiences - ITV repeated it in the afternoons during the 80's as a daytime drama.

I had no idea ITV did that. I can understand why, it was a good TV Series.

Does anybody have any idea which areas other than Luddenden, were used to film this series.

I saw the programme in the late 80's but I think that it started in the mid or late 70's? I do remember that actress Joanne Whalley (former wife of Val Kilmer) made her acting debut on the series.

It started in the mid-70's. It's one of the longest running schools programmes ever.

It's still around on C4, but it's a very different programme today! I used to tape it for my teacher on the schools Betamax back in 1986/87. I was "video monitor", a position invented especially for me because of my obsession with video / audio.

If it's any help, the surname of the 'poor family' was Selby, and the 'rich' family surname was Holroyd...

I believe the programme was first shown in 1975, and there were five series prior to the 'new-look' programme on Channel 4. I believe videos may still be on sale from Educational Televison Company in Warwick, though from memory they were very expensive.

The series' I remember were:

1975 - 1978 Years 1936-52
1978 - 1981 Years 1878 - 1901
1981 - 1984 Years 1936-52 (remake)
1984 - 1987 Years 1902-36
1987 - 1990 Years 1953-70

I rememember Diana Davies (Mrs Bates from Emmerdale Farm was in the 1975 and 1981 series', Huw Higginson (Garfield from the Bill) and Tara Shaw (sometime Corrie star) were in the 1987 series.

See www.schoolstv.com and www.tv-ark.co.uk for downloads of the some of the opening titles.
