I'm thinking they got the idea independently of each other. It's not that unique of a design anyway.

By the way, what's with Canada's CTV's logo? Pretty naff, in my opinion. The equivalent of our awful Sky One logo. Do you like it or reckon they should change it?

IMO the CTV logo looks decent enough. And in fact, I thought their ident/promo series from about 1997-early 2000s was pretty clever, using components of their logo for different divisions of the network (red/circle - entertainment; blue/square - news, green/triangle - sports). Too bad they ditched it.

And to be honest, I don't think any potential replacements would look better than what they have now, so they might as well stick to this logo. (And at least the "C", "T" and "V" fit the shapes properly, unlike the cheap ripoff that UPN in the States used.)

I guess it is a little more imaginative than New Zealand's very own CTV (a regional station for one of our provinces, Canterbury, in the South Island, which mostly just relays Bloomberg and Deustche Welt except for primetime). See...

or there's this logo for Columbia University's station... http://www.columbia.edu/cu/ctv/

I dunno, it's just if I was a CTV exec I'd be itching to refresh the look after so many years.

That's just it....as far as I know, the logo has never changed....and it was pretty cool in 1961 when it was created.

The current CTV logo debuted in 1966 for colour television (hence the 3 primary colours of broadcasting being featured). From 1961 until 66, I believe their logo was just the plain "CTV" or "CTN" text (I can't remember which), surrounded by a giant "C". Sounds much more naff than their current logo, I'd say. Razz

Have you managed to get some screen shots of the 3 idents yet for our foreign friends?

I wonder how many different ones they have? Saw one with a movie usher in Kaikoura at the weekend that was a new one for me, anyway.

I l love the fish and chip one (the ident features a slow pan across an open bag of hot fish and chips and a wee tub of sauce, as some 3 squares race across the screen and slightly techno music plays, then the '3' logo slides in to place. It tends to play on Friday and Saturday nights- peak fish and chip nights in NZ!)

BTW, can't wait to see what the titles and sets will be like for the new current affairs shows on 3 and Prime at 7pm next year.

Aside from that I've sent an email to 3 News suggesting they adapt either the BBC Breakfast set or the (UK) 5 News set (but make it red/ornage background, black or white cushioned bench and pale floorboards instead of 5's white floor).

Seen that one quite often, the ones I see most often are the doorman at the club and the 3 club dancers.

Yeah, strange that, perhaps the fisheries are in on it. I actually don't lik the TV3 idents that much, I find that they remind me too much of CSI: Miami, even though I like that show. It makes me think of it and I think the 'glass-like' squares that flash across disturb the flow. [/quote]

TV3's will probably be either very upmarket or very laid back. They might even use the old ' Home Truths' studio. Prime's will probably be quite low budget and their opening idents will probably be quite low budget too.

Just a quick note, I wish TVone and TV2 would put thier watermarks at the bottom, they would look so much bertter thatway, (or take them off completely). And I think TV3 should just have the '3' part of its lgo on the watermark during shows and use the fern, during ads and news presantions. Its too long.
