It might be a boring typeface - but those are B&W representations, and will probably come to life as it were in an ident.

EPG - Sky Movies Act&Thril anyone? SkyMovies Class?

Anyway, if you notice, Sky Movies break stings have shown the impression of change. They act as if they're switching off.

I just saw one myself, very clever i thought, moving from the random environment of the Sky Movies Ident, into a studio.

Here is an image from the may highlights pdf guide, and this seems to be part of the new look.

So the Sky Movies rebranded channels launch next week - and the names look as stupid in the TV guides as we all predicted.

Stupidly What's on TV at least gives "Premiere +1" a full channel slot, basically copying listings from Premiere. And as they are the same films all week, I'd hardly say the original deserves a full channel slot - they could just highlight details about one or two movies each day.

The most stupid thing though is we've got "Sky Movies HD1" and "Sky Movies HD2" down as on ch 309 and 310 - then a note saying they're simulcast in HD on 311/312. Is that right - technically isn't the SD transmission the simulcast? I guess though Sky Movies viewers should be greatful they've not gone HD only too!

Then there are a couple more Sky Movies channels on 313/314 - listed in the old Sky Cinema slots - and seeming out of place on the EPG compared to the others. Surely they'd be better on 309/310, with HD1/2 on 311/312, simulcast in SD on 313/314.

Anyhow, also worth noting that with at least 4 Sky channels cutting their hours, Film4 are expanding theirs from next week to start at 1pm rather than 3pm.

I've just had a little preview of the new idents for each of the channels.

Granted, they were still images, but if they've done them right, they are fluid motion multi-coloured graphics on a black background, similar to graphical visualisations as seen on popular music programs.

Unlike the current channels, each channel has it's own style and colour.

To quote the editor of SkyMovies.com:

Rich at SkyMovies.com posted:
It's all about lighting. The idents have a set of lights that are designed to match the feel of the channel. The premiere channel has a sort of 20th Centuty Fox premiere feel, the sci-fi one looks like Event Horizon or something futuristic. The comedy one had a slinky thing going on but that might have changed now. They've spent 250,000 man hours on this in the last 2 years. That's the stat I was told today!

I'm a fan of the current Sky Movies idents, but these new ones have the potential to be absolutely fantastic - and the HD1 and HD2 should be amazing!

Just HD1 will be fantastic, HD2's low bitrate doesn't do justice to anything.

Switch on to a Different Sky Movies
Have you heard about Sky Movies' fantastic new look? From this month, not only will they be showing hundreds of great films as usual-it'll be now even easier to find what you want to watch, when you want to watch it.

All the movies have been divided into genres, so if you fancy a thriller, horror, comedy or family film-you'll know where to look. We've pictured a taster of the fantastic range of films showing this month. [que mostly repeats with one or two premieres]

And we've put together a list (right) of the channels and where you'll find them on your on-screen Sky Guide.

They don't seem to mention that hours have been cut though...not that I'm too bothered as I steer clear from the Movies subscription.

Maybe its just me but what is so difficult about scrolling through screens 1-10, looking at the EPG and seeing what's on? This rebrand could cause more harm than good because, as mentioned loads of times before, the channel names on the EPG are going to look awful.

Is this definitely happening? The preview i've seen from Sky has a description of each channel and it's genre always ending in "24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

What's on TV puts Modern Greats and Indie on 313/314, with HD1 and HD2 on 309/310 - "simulcast in HD on 311/312". Which didn't make sense!

Whats the point of a +1 channel, sounds like they are reducing their output to me!
