I presume the BBC conjured up the balloon idea to convey an all-encompassing, global image. Perhaps it slipped their minds that as a mode of transport, ballooning is a lumbering, unreliable and inefficient affair, nothing like the BBC at all.
Honestly, those designers are full of hot air.
