What a load of self-indulgent rubbish from these broadcasters.
I think the public service broadcasters probably felt the need to highlight their wares in some form, especially as the lockdown really seems to have boosted Netflix.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see more of this type of promotion as they jointly take on the bigger threats.

You highlight your wares by making good content and traditional promotion online and in ad slots. We've seen in the ratings the past few years that good shows still draw in the crowds. Stuff like this isn't going to stop anyone loading up Netflix or Britbox. (although the latter is a project by a lot of these channels anyway, they know the next step when the BBC inevitably gets defunded and ITV becomes unprofitable).
This just screams of 'coming together' platitudes with no real 'coming together. It' s twaddle.
If they really want to get creative about content I'd love them to start taking on some of the more long form videogamers/youtubers and online content creators and scheduling it in early prime time. Many of these channels get hundreds of thousands and often millions of views, making an event viewing deal with these would be away of remaining relevant, not getting all doe-eyed about rubbish traditional dramas.
