BBC2 has to be. Until Monday. Boo! Hiss! Big purple nonsense.
Abandoning the letters B, B and C entirely for such a long time was a good, brave move.
The spinning lines 70s logo is much forgotten but quite classic.
TWO looked nice at first but grew dull quickly. A self-conscious attempt NOT to be at all like 4.

sky always used to seem important when it said something like 'this is sky one, part of the sky television network' by that man, no-one else did that, and i think some channels should start doing it. it's better than the ususal talking we get over the idents!
BBC ONE havn't had spectacular idents, the ballons are good and the 1991-1997 globe wasn't as bad as ppl make it out 2 be, it's just not much could be done with it, BBC TWO's 2's have been exellent since 1991 but they are going to spoil it on Monday, the striped 2 was good, i voted for TWO mainly cos of the 2 logos. Sky's logo's used to be amzing, consistent style across all channels just using different colours mainly, but when didgital came in Sky recked their presentation all the idents are different and not brilliant, paticulary SKY one's current box ident, UK GOLD's idents were good in 1993 with the golden dog, they still aren't bad today with the fireworks, Channel 4's current logo is bad, the blocks were the best, the circles didn't follow it up well, but they weren't as bad as the current idents. Channel 5, I think are on their best set of idents at the moment and Meridian ITV Ident was good in 1993 and LWT's Ident in 1997 was also a classic and better than that video wall!
I voted for channel 4, for the 1982 ident (the 1996 and 1999 efforts are crap) cos it was the best ident ever. Not lookign dated, even after 19 years. I dont know about SKY though. We never had it cos we didnt want a dish. We got cable in 1999 authough the only SKY branded channel we got was SKY One and the presentation for that sucked then, authough I saw a great SKY 1 ident in 1997 at a mates house who had cable back then. Its a shame that style was dropped. We have SKY news as well now, and I hate the presentaiton for that. All the 'whoosh' sound effects and ovesized astons make it awful. I usually watch News 24 or ITN.

What about YTV's?
'On Ilkley Moor B'ah Tat, On Ilkley Moor B'ah Tat, On Ilkley Moor B'ahhhh Tat'
Those who haven't a clue what I'm on about. The YTV ident music is based on the song 'On Ilkley Moor B'ah Tat'
Yorkshire (which isn't included in the poll, even though it serves 6 million viewers) have had a good set in recent years, Here are my top 3 favourites:
3 - 1996 YTV Spinning Ident - A classic for the modern era
2 - 1999 Regional Ident
1 - 1994 Look
The static silent '1' used mid 90s was plain dire!

I want to put a good word in for BBC Choice.
Their idents have already been through 3 different looks, 2 of which were pure genius. The original look with the 'choice of three' was great, especially the hearts (much better than [itv]'s) and the mice!!!! What can I say about the mice? I think BBC THREE should bring back idents like that when it launches.
the edited hearts that replaced that were weird - and now we have the bouncy cubes which, although the principle of invading programmes is a very bad one, are very adaptable for trailers and promotion, and the use of club tunes is a great way of having quality jingles at low cost, and keeping up to date. I think it sums up what the channel's about.

The first lot of BBC Choice idents were great - yes, I loved the hearts one, and they got in there just before ITV did. Apparently ITV bosses started having heart attacks when they saw that ident! The second lot were rubbish, and the current ones are all right but not brilliant. I reckon they were a rejected package conceived for BBC THREE.
As for the '1' of the mid-90s; I think BBC1's branding in this era was a bit confused. Was the '1' supposed to be the main logo, or the globe? We saw the '1' appear in many different forms on trailers etc, just like with the '2', but on the ident itself it was just a plain figure stuck inside the globe. The 1997 rebrand luckily addressed all that was wrong with the 1991-97 look.

Just a shame they never play this version any more for whatever reason
