However, those muppets at Ofcom, etc, have decreed that HD services are not PSB services, and therefore cannot be at more prominent EPG positions than the SD equivalents.

I despair, there really are some dogmatic idiots regulating UK broadcasting Crying or Very sad

I concur regarding 'BBC Two England' (although technically, no such beast exists, does it?).

It would be a sensible to place Network 'BBC Two HD' on 102 for those with HD compatible STBs, surely?

Only for people in England.

Have to concur with both of you.

I can't believe that there's no clear public migration strategy for HD on DTT.

Surely the BBC could have HD versions for all the regions on Freeview and cable. And whilst they're at it, resurrect BBC 2 regions in England so that they can carry regional programming in case something major (e.g. Wimbledon) is on BBC1.

The fact that Digital Satellite wouldn't carry all the regions doesn't matter as most Sky viewers could switch to Freeview, in the same way as viewers had to switch to analogue for regional programming in the past.

For both of those things to happen, would require a great deal more coders, upconverters, stat muxers in the central coding centres, plus other kit in the regions too. Yes, it's only a matter of buying the kit, and finding rack space to accommodate it, then someone to commission and test it, but all that sadly requires MONEY, something the Beeb are very short of. The regional HD will happen eventually, but it's probably way way down the priority list at present.

Ironically if ITV and C4 were to expand their 'regionality' on the Freeview HD mux, that would make it easier (or reduce the cost) for the Beeb to do the same.

The BBC DSat service exists partially to provide a service to viewers who can't receive DTT. You can't assume that viewers can 'switch to Freeview'.

If it is only an occasional thing then it isn't a problem. The last time they put regional news on BBC 2 the Westcountry and Cumbria had already switched and couldn't show it.

But there is the expense.

Anyone in NI able to capture/upload some Ceefax pages if there are any about the switchover/end of Ceefax - like P101 for example?

Does anyone know if there's likely to be anything on network TV to mark the passing of analogue? I'm guessing there might be some news reports the day after, but is that likely to be all?

Dame Mary Peters will be switching off the signal at 2330. Also, "Viewers who check Ceefax during the evening will see a special graphics countdown on page 100."

I'm told UTV analogue will go at 23:34:06

Analogue television dies tonight at 11.30 on BBC 1 NI. Just before that, a little telly-geekiness that I made a few days ago will be shown.

Marksi's on CA duty at Broadcasting House.
