I think most of what Watch airs can fit onto UKTV's other channels. It was doomed from the beginning when Richard and Judy's show flopped almost instantly, and it never seems to know what it wants to be. There's "general entertainment" and then there's just "bland".
Agreed. They are just wasting their time and money, trying to get it to work. They should be focusing on the slightly more "niche" channels, and strengthening them. It could maybe work as a "showcase channel" for UKTV, with programmes from Dave, Alibi, Really, etc.

There's no point in it being a showcase channel when all their other channels are already available on Sky and Virgin.

Aside from the main five channels I don't really think general entertainment channels can work in the digital age. You expect digital channels to have some sort of niche or focus and that's what draws audiences to them. I think that's why Watch and Sky1 are really struggling with their original shows at the moment, you're not sure if you'll enjoy them because you don't really know who it'll be aimed at.

Actually I wonder if UKTV could end up bringing a revamped Watch to Freeview. They've got a full slot for Dave Ja Vu which has previously been used as a temporary channel before being replaced by Really and Drama. There's nothing about Watch at the moment that particularly screams premium.
