Media Guardian: UKTV to reintroduce name to on-screen branding as part of relaunch

It's all a bit vague this, and doesn't really state whether the channel names will all be tagged with UKTV again, or whether the UKTV logo will just form part of the idents and pres. I suspect the latter. But an interesting development nevertheless.

I'm not really surprised tbh, it worked for 'Dave' however the other channels seemed devoid without the parent name.

Other than Dave, they did themselves no favours. They managed to turn people's heads with Dave, and by launching on Freeview, it could turn even more heads. The other channels just got given silly names and not enough programming to fulfil them all. I remember somebody on TVF pointing out that they once saw Gavin and Stacey air on GOLD, Watch, Dave and Really.

I always thought it seemed like a mistake to drop the 'UKTV' in the first place - so I think it's a step in the right direction that they've now realised this, and are putting it right.

So are they going to be called UKTV Dave, UKTV Eden ect. or are they going to get new names?

Like everyone, I knew a change in this direction would happen eventually.

Dave, I imagine would remain as simply Dave, with the addition of a UKTV logo within it's logo. Whether the other channels regained the UKTV as part of their name or not.

The article mentions that they aren't going completely back to how it used to be which suggests a prefix of UKTV is unlikely but no doubt they'll frequently mention the UKTV network and the logo will be prominent on the idents from now on.

The UKTV brand will appear on air in cross promotion menus, programme opening and closing credits, co-branded consumer advertising and throughout all B2B communications.

Like the new logo, looks fresh. But not sure about adding UKTV to every channel name, will be a bit of mouthful!

Part of the UKTV network... this.... is Yesterday!

Something deliciously retro about that!

Certainly doesn't seem that it's returning to the channel names, just that it'll be seen on screen a bit more. Sounds like they'll be doing what the BBC has been doing for years and ITV have just started to do, and putting the logo in the opening titles of their original shows.

And third party original commissions would perhaps have UKTV instead of the channel name on the endcap.

I wonder if we'll get something like this...
