Sounds as though watch will become the main flagship channel. I wonder if it will be given UK Golds current slot with that moving elsewhere.

UKTV Gold isn't moving anywhere it's just dropping the "UKTV" from the name and probably retaining all the current programmes that aren't moved to Alibi or Watch . Watch replaces UKTV Gold+1

For the other UKTV channels, how about:

UKTV History - Past
UKTV Food - Taste or Food
UKTV Style - Seen
UKTV Documentary - Docs or Documentary
UKTV Gardens - Gardens
UKTV People - Life

Or:

UKTV History - Dusty
UKTV Food - Nosh
UKTV Style - Fluffy
UKTV Documentary - Lecture
UKTV Gardens - Weed
UKTV People - Airport

Then they would fit in with the other stupid names! Evil or Very Mad

I love the name alibi and I think it totally fits in with their programming, though I presume that they will now drop the daytime comedies.

As for Gold, basically the same name, and a nice slogan that they've come up with to tie it all together. I'd have hoped that they would have gone back to the graphical days and created a great big shiny looking logo, not looking that way from that, but who knows.

And as for Watch, I just don't get it. I think it's a pretty weak name, especially thinking about it in the terms of 'now on watch Richard & Judy', it doesn't sound right, and reminds me of the BBC schools series.
I'm also not sure on the logo, it look very random, an interesting choice of font next to a sphere?

that font on the watch logo looks too much like that used for the logo of swatch.

This says a lot really - Alibi, mentioned previously on the forum as a mere (seemingly half-serious) example of the sort of 'clever' name they could come up with, turns out to be the actual new name of the channel!

If we can second-guess such ideas, then they clearly aren't being smart enough - I doubt people are half as likely to stop at Alibi than they would Dave, because ...As for "GOLD"; that just stinks of yet more trying to be clever, where it's not even needed!

To be honest I'm not impressed. I think it's going to have taken some solid effort with the on-screen identity for me to view the whole changeover positively overall.

When did this happen? We've known this was to be the name of the channel could be Alibi since it was announced they we're changing it's (and UKTV Gold's) name. If you read the article that started the tread it states:

Quote:
UKTV is also repositioning UKTV Drama to focus on crime drama, with Alibi thought to be one new brand name under consideration for the service.

So unfortunately we've not be second guessing them this time. As for the other names, we'll have to wait and see.

Personally don't think much of the watch logo, not sure what it's trying to be.

An eyeball? Or failing that, a spherical camera? Who knows.

Generally, I'm still left wondering that, if this clever naming concept is to be applied to all channels (and one might argue that from a brand perspective it now makes collective sense for them to do so), how will something as down-to-earth in subject matter as Gardens come across with a 'sexed-up' name (for want of a better phrase)? I would take issue with a particularly wacky title, for its probable clash of tone with content.

Here is a comparison...

...seems to me the only similarity between the two is in the name!

Only? Look at the w, the t and the h.

The logos aren't identical , but saying there's no similarity bar the name is certainly wrong.

I doubt if Swatch Group are going to take legal issue over it. It's not like UKTV are launching themselves into a similar market.

On first glance the Alibi logo reminded me of the Biography Channel, but they aren't similar in any real sense, of course Wink

I wasn't aware initially, but on comparison...I'm not sure that's right. To have, by coincidence, a fair level of likeness for both - it's just that bit too close for comfort...

Really not sure about 'Watch'.. .maybe because I can't help thinking of this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5XbRazCs1g8 Very Happy

Alibi I quite like, it's kinda in the new American style of one-word Tv channel names: Spike, Bio etc
