When Watch closed down last night they were testing the ECP for Yesterday before Teleshopping came on. Don't have my capture card set up at the moment so had to take a dodgy pic with my phone.

Have these revamps actually improved the ratings of UKTV's channels so far? I know they quoted Dave as being incredibly successful, but much of that was down to it launching on Freeview, hence naturally ratings would increase. Watch doesn't seem to be worrying anyone on Sky & Cable.

Dave increased it's audience on Satellite and Cable too when it was rebranded... that's why it was deemed a success

Did that success continue though beyond the initial relaunch, and has it been repeated across other channels?

No idea, I expect it's a bit soon to tell. Also the other channels have changed in terms of programming, and Watch is totally new of course. G2 didn't get many new programmes when it was renamed Dave, it stayed pretty much the same

Still, that might have been a result of people with Freeview enjoying it and telling their friends who've got Sky/Virgin.

I've got Sky and I never bothered to watch UKTV G2. I watch Dave all the time now, as do a lot of people I know.

A good brand does a hell of a lot to change a viewer's perception of a channel.

UKTV G2 though was always considered a particularly weak brand, unlike say UKTV Gold, who I hardly see benefiting from being known as G.O.L.D.

As you say though a good brand does make the difference, but since Dave the only one too really catch my eye is Blighty, both in terms of it's look and it's definition. Blighty = Britain - simple. What on earth does Eden mean.

I think Eden is pretty self-explanatory and, again, a much better brand than the mouthful that was UKTV Documentary.

I think G.O.L.D. is the only weak link in their new "portfolio" of channels, and should have been given a different name.

It should have stayed as Gold, but not like G.O.L.D. It's one of the longest running channel names on British TV, so I think they would have been taking a huge risk by dropping the Gold name. I don't like the name G.O.L.D, in fact I still call it UK Gold.

Slightly OT, but Discovery are launching a channel called Shed. Do you think they're taking a leaf out of UKTV's book?

Eden to me though says Gardening, not Documentary.

I do think sooner or later next time UKTV get the marketing execs in we'll be seeing UKTV Eden, UKTV Blighty, UKTV Alibi etc. - or at the very least the UKTV logo will be incorporated into the station idents to show they're all part of one big family.

That's because you're thinking of the Garden of Eden. Eden doesn't actually mean garden or gardening.`
