I quite like it, it's certainly different and nothing like anything else. I disagree about the Sun comparison, it's far more colourful, progresive and modern than anything they would come up with. It's certainly not portraying an old fashioned view of Britain

I think they manage to portray British stereotypes without being stereotypical about it. The eccentricity of it all certainly gives the channel a personality it so desperately needed as UKTV People.

I agree, it seems fresh, bright and breezy to me, and there's nothing jingoistic about it. It actually makes me smile.

RE: "Blighty"

I kinda like the new Blighty channel - the idents are fresh, the DOGs not too intrusive, but it does seem a bit up-to-date. Thought 'Britain From Above' was due to be repeated on BBC Four rather than on here - but then again, depends on how much UKTV paid for the episodes. Oh and it's in 16:9 which is good!

Wonder if they'll be a Blighty HD channel or even Blighty+1 launching? 'Britain from Above' in HD was fantastic when it was on BBC HD, so why not replay it?!

If they ever did do a HD channel, which is not very likely, then I'm sure they'd do something like "UKTV HD" with programmes from all the different channels.

I concur, in part. I have to admit I like the 'Blighty' idents that I've seen. They are rather quirky, humourous and slightly irreverant. I think they poke fun at our 'britishness' in the way those pesky viewers abroad don't understand; the way only anyone born here does (or has lived here for a while, of course)!

I can't see there being a Blighty+1 (as there is little enough space on the Sky EPG). I can foresee a 'UKTV HD' channel soon, once BBC HD has had enough time to show things that can be 'flogged off' to their commercial partner.

EDIT:
The 'in part' was because I think the DOG is too big! Although, contrary to recent UKTV re-brandings, at least it's not technicolour and burning itself into viewers' plasma TVs! Shocked

I'm surprisingly impressed with this Blighty revamp - it's certainly standing out from the crowd a bit more than some of the other UKTV revamps.

I've seen the Blighty Idents on Youtube and they have one of the former BBC announcers as their announcer (She's the scottish/welsh one)

I wouldn't hold your breath. Remember how long it took them to go widescreen?

Also, UKTV History is currently showing the UKTV History +1 DOG in the corner for some reason.

When I flipped on History earlier, they're already promoting 'YeSTERDAY' underneath their main DOG.

Have these revamps actually improved the ratings of UKTV's channels so far? I know they quoted Dave as being incredibly successful, but much of that was down to it launching on Freeview, hence naturally ratings would increase. Watch doesn't seem to be worrying anyone on Sky & Cable.
