Is it? Who does it represent? Do explain.
The Union Jack/Flag is the flag for Great Britain and Northern Ireland just as the star spangled banner is for the whole of America.
Try going to New York and mangling their national flag into different colours and see what what response you get!
Zuh? What's that got to do with the price of fish?
So we can't have a Union flag in case people think BNP - and you don't like a multi-coloured one because the Americans would take offence if we did that to theirs?
No... that doesn't sound crazy at all.
Its a coloured flag - maybe to signify a modern blended Britain?
But then what would I know. I tend not to read the Daily Mail.

I'd like to say yet again that I think UKTV are going in the right direction with their channels. There was little benefit in branding a documentary channel in an almost identical style to a classic comedy and drama channel - especially when said brand is so uninspiring, as the UKTV one is.
Eden is a brilliant name for what they intend the channel to be. It is worth remembering that this is more than a new name and different idents, this is a complete repositioning and refocusing of their channels. There is not a doubt in my mind that Eden and Blighty will gain a significantly larger audience than UKTV People and UKTV Documentary.
It just remains to be seen what they do to the Style and Food channels. I think for these, they'd be better coming up with a single name, followed by Food or Gardens, for example (using what they have already) Style Gardens, Style Food, Style Homes etc. There's a lot more common interest between these than the other channels in the UKTV family.

The flag is an emblem for the nation, the Union Flag is Great Britain's flag and that is a fact. The fact that Blighty have decided to give it weird colours is a completely separate discussion that should be had with the so called branding experts.

I think that they've gone a bit far with this "far-out" thinking. Dave worked because it was a one off, and quirky. Now they've jumped the shark a bit. The backronym GOLD makes no sense as a comedy channel - why not call it GRIN (Giggle RIght Now). Watch is...well...yawnworthy but just about acceptable. Alibi is fair enough and is better than "Crime & Investigation Network".
But Eden? Blighty? What do they represent? If they wanted to completely eradicate the UKTV brand they should just use short, one syllable keywords.
Cue the obligatory "If I'd have done it, I'd have done it like this" moment:
General entertainment: WATCH; Comedy channel: GRIN; Crime: ALIBI; Documentary: KNOW; History: PAST.
People, Style can stay as they are and just drop the UKTV moniker.

Why one syllable words?
What do Eden and Blighty represent?.... well 2 TV channels and their content of course!

I've just looked at the UKTV website, this is their list of channels following the recent changes.
Watch (Sky 109, Virgin TV 124) (completely new channel)
G.O.L.D. (Sky 110, Virgin TV 126, Top Up TV 17) (new name for UKTV Gold)
Dave (Sky 111, Virgin TV 128, Freeview 19)
Alibi (Sky 132, Virgin TV 130) (new name for UKTV Drama)
UKTV History (Sky Channel 537, Virgin TV 203, Freeview 12)
UKTV Documentary (Sky Channel 532, Virgin TV 208)
UKTV People (Sky Channel 566, Virgin TV 206)
UKTV Style (Sky Channel 246, Virgin TV 265, Top Up TV 26)
UKTV Gardens (Sky Channel 248, Virgin TV 267)
UKTV Food (Sky Channel 249, Virgin TV 260)
UKTV Homes (the UKTV website doesn't specify channel numbers for this)
Just two of the UKTV channels have changed their names this week:
UKTV Gold -> G.O.L.D. (Go On Laugh Daily)
UKTV Drama -> Alibi
and one new channel has been launched: Watch.
All the rest are unchanged.
Three weeks ago, I was frantically trying to record the complete set of idents from every UKTV channel, thinking they were all due to be rebranded. Now I'll have to get the new presentation for Watch, G.O.L.D and Alibi.

Thanks. If I knew you were going to turn up on page 29 I wouldn't have had to bother reading the first 28 pages. Or indeed, just the first post.

Why are people on here going on about possible future name changes for other UKTV channels? Let's get things straight:
About a year ago UKTV G2 became Dave.
This week UKTV Gold became G.O.L.D. and UKTV Drama became Alibi. One new channel was launched: Watch.
The rest of the UKTV channels have remained unchanged.
