The outgoing look of UKTV Gold has to be notable for its short tenure - the gold Space Hoppers have had a run of roughly only 1 ½ years, IIRC; that's terribly short. It only feels like yesterday that it was introduced for the first time - I'm not sure if the rebrand was really worth it though.
It's not as if it was a 'bite-size' refresh to carry them over until the next change - the strong point of the branding was definitely the range of stings; they certainly gave us choice there - but at the same time, the core of the look - the idents - were let down by moments of near sub-standard production, and most of all,
that
repetitive music on every single one of them!
Overall, IMO it didn't quite work out given its lifespan - they probably could have stuck with the preceding 'golden TV glow' concept set (with a more tolerable audio!) and saved the money to put towards this era that's now just round the corner. And it looks like G-O-L-D's pres could have done with a bit of extra funding...!
The best UK Gold branding was the gold ingot period, so many different variations on the ident. Nothing since has came close to that period. The space hoppers weren't brilliant but they were much better than the idents when they just had people watching TV, and then a gold light would appear and the UK Gold logo would appear.

25 years after the Blackadder's first appearance on British television screens, G.O.L.D. tells the story of how Edmund Blackadder came into being, how the character changed over the four series, how the stellar cast was assembled, and the real inspirations behind Baldrick’s cunning plans. Those sharing their Blackadder knowledge include writer and creator Richard Curtis, writer Ben Elton, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tony ‘Baldrick’ Robinson, Tim McInnerny, Miranda Richardson, Miriam Margolyes, Patsy Byrne, Brian Blessed, producers John Lloyd and Howard Goodall, and directors Mandie Fletcher and Richard Boden. Never before has such a comprehensive re-telling of the Blackadder story been assembled.
Notice the glaring and virtually singular omission. Not a surprise given his well-known hatred of interviews, but still...
Well the new channels are on air, Watch has a nice DOG, but Gold's looks terrible, alibi's doesn't look much better either.
But good to see at last the channels have been sorted out, by that I mean the new BBC programmes being taken off Gold and the Comedies being taken off from Drama.

Agree about the DOGs. GOLD were abit confused earlier, using the new DOG but old style IPP. Watch didn't actually appear on Sky until 7:50 when all the channels swapped into their new positions.
