replaces UKTV Style for two days (March 2004)

What do forumers think of UKTV launching a "New Channel" for two days only? They've replaced UKTV Style with UKTV Mums for two days only (in honour of Mothering Sunday presumably). They're showing an interesting mix of programmes from cookery (Two Fat Ladies, Delia Smith etc) to comedy (My Family, 2 Point 4 Children) to their usual stuff (House Invaders etc)

I think it's far better than their usual single-programme themed weekends, where the output just drives you crazy with 24 episodes of Ready Steady Cook or whatever back-to-back !

They've gone the whole hog with new DOG and idents, though they haven't changed their name on the Sky EPG - presumably if they did, (A) Sky would charge them for the priveledge and (B) viewers with UKTV Style as one of their Favourites (there must be some ...) would lose the channel in their Favourites list...

Seems like an excuse to show the same "UKTV" style shows all on one channel. I'd be interested to see whether this is thought of as a success. The idents are, unsurprisingly, poor.

Probably true about the Sky charge but the favourites list wouldn't be a problem - I mean, I have UK Gold as a favourite and I didn't lose it when it changed to UKTV Gold.

This isnt the first time UKTV has renamed a channel for an occasion. UK Gold was turned into UK Ginger when The Weakest Link started on UK Gold, they had a whole weekend of it.

Well quite - hence the inverted commas ! I'd forgotten about UK Ginger ... presumably, people will equally forget about UKTV Mums.

I think this idea has been mooted before. There was talk of a special Christmas channel showing just Christmas specials.

The words UK Gold 3 come into mind.

Though I am watching The Vicar of Dibley right now and I am waiting for My Family, but it's better than the usual crap Style churns out.

Of course they'll be a uktv Dads. It wouldn't be right just doing a mums one now would it. Very Happy

The ident may be bad but how would you make a better ident for mums?
