That is true, but they branded them under Granada Men & Motors, this always occured when more than 1 English team would be playing and when there was only one ITV channel available, though Regions could choose to opt-out to show their relevant match, if the game was crucial it would go Mutli-Channel.
Carlton Select also showed some Champions League games during the later half of the 1990's, though this stopped when ITV2 and On Sport became available.
The Champions League did have a final outing on Granada Plus in 2003 when they couldn't show the game on ITV1, a game was being shown on ITV2, they couldn't use ITV News (like they were doing previously) due to the Iraq War, so they used Plus instead, with full ITV presentation, which was odd at the time.

Yeah very odd just like the Sky Sports match which was aired on Sky One, it was for me anyway odd.

The match being aired on Granada Plus in 2003 was Newcastle v Barcelona. It was a crucial game, and many fellow fans were less than happy at out game being shelved onto G+, when a totally meaningless Man Utd game was on ITV1 the previous day.

AIUI ITV have no power to show the Wednesday game on ITV1, unless it's the Final, at that time they could show it on ITV2. Though I presume ITV2 showed another game, probably Arsenal. Though I remember the fuss a couple of years ago when they started showing games on The ITN News Channel (just before ITV rebranded it), as it was only available on Digital Cable, again Newcastle's games were affected, though this didn't last long until they decided to show the games on the DSAT version of the channel. Though I remember ITV getting slated, as Russian Theatre Siege happened when ITV News were showing a game.

ITV2 did indeed show an Arsenal game. Out of our 12 games in the competition, only one of them was on ITV1.
We got an incredibly rough deal from ITV that year. The Premiership was an arse-licking excercise of ManU, Arsenal and Liverpool as well. Showed them prominently EVERY week.

They might have done so, but I remember one game coming under as Men & Mototrs, but I can't remember as it was a fair time ago.

Seriously rather then launch more channels, they need to actually sort out UK Gold.
Never a truer word spoken.
They need to reorganise Gold, G2 & Drama.
Gold should be a light entertainment channel with loads of classic comedy (and not the same handful of programmes they show on rotation).
Drama should stick to pure drama and soap.
G2 should take on all recent programming (ie: output from the last five years or so, like the new Doctor Who, Little Britain, The Fast Show etc etc
Then maybe they could launch a kind of UKTV Mix channel for Freeview which would also carry programmes from all of the UKTV network.
