They could have named the channel 'Eve', and then rebrand it for Christmas the way they did with Christmas Dave. Wouldn't be confusing at all.

On a more serious note, they appear to be going after something like Sky Living's current formula with a core of drama programmes that are female-skewing, but also male-accessible, which is probably why they are not going for an overtly female name or look. (Although Dave is obviously a masculine name, so there are perhaps patriarchal norms at play here.)

Eve is channel name that Discovery use in some territories.

We have a treasure trove of compelling original commissions, our own crown jewels"

I see why the logo looks like that. I feel as if Watch (or W) might become a female channel. You see, the problem with the name W is not because it's easy to type, but there used to be a brand of Woolworths called Big W. People who remember Big W will get a bit confused.
Do you even read these?

There's a hotel chain called W, which was the first thing I thought of. And then there's the magazine called W as well.

Mind you, if we can have a channel called E!, surely we can have one called W. I think it's already growing on me.

It seems pretty desperate for the BBC to do a deal with UKTV for the linear same day repeat of EastEnders behind a paywall once BBC Three closes. This is what happens when the Tories cut their budget.

I don't think it will have been done in desperation at all. Presumably the BBC were quite happy to just axe the repeat. UKTV have spotted an opportunity and made a deal.

The desperation, if anything, is on UKTV's part for thinking this will work as well for them as it did for BBC Three. Presumably the BBC wont/wont be able to crosspromote it in the same way, and for the average viewer there's iPlayer. What sort of ratings does it get on BBC Three anyway?!

EastEnders didn't make the BBC Three top 10 last week, but for w/e Dec 20, the Thursday repeat had 466k.

The BBC Three repeat "generates up to half a million viewers" according to Broadcast.

The article also states they hope the "simplified" name will emulate the success they had rebranding UKTV G2 with Dave. I don't understand why they think the success of Dave was solely down to its name. Its audience bloomed thanks to its presence on Freeview and having it on air all day, whereas G2 had to timeshare. Don't get me wrong, the rebrand paid off and it's embedded the name and style of the channel into a lot of people's minds, whereas the majority couldn't care less about the branding of the channel they're watching.

Well it won't be doing that on W, which isn't on Freeview.

This is the rebirth of the channel that took Richard & Judy from a show regularly getting ratings of 2m+ on C4 to ratings that never got above 5 figures, despite a massive advertising campaign.

I still think UKTV's biggest problem is the amount of channels it has, not what they're called. The fact that Keeping Up Appearances gets shown on a channel orientated towards factual and historical documentaries, and that one sitcom can (and does) air on Gold, Watch and Dave is a telling sign. Yes they're boosting their original programming which is making it all look a bit more sensible, but I really do think you can only rebrand a channel so many times before somebody realises it has no real purpose.
