Well, they ditched the Gold programming years ago - but looking at recent listing they seem to have ditched the UK programming too in favour of US shows like Prison Break etc.

They have shown imported series for years though. From day one they showed Aussie soaps like Neighbours and Sons and Daughters.

I see your point, but programmes like Sons and Daughters and The Sullivans, is that they were shown on British TV ad naseum for years and in a way became Gold. But back to the point of a programme like Prison Break which has done OK on Five since it began a few months ago, a bit different I think.

Yes I see what you mean. I dont understand why Prison Break is on UK TV Gold either. Hardly gold! They would be better off repeating it on FIVE US!

I notice that they were showing wildlife docs on UKTV History last weekend. And why do they show comedy such as Bread and Terry & June on UKTV Drama?

I think UKTVGold should be come UKTV1 featuring the best of the the UKTV network and some unique offerings such as these Now & Again programmes. Then it can easily slide into a Freeview slot such as UKTV History. Then UKTV2 could feature old gold programmes, UKTV3 for youth (16-35), UKTV4 Lifestyle (woman's slant), UKTV5 Docs & History

With the new look, any chance of some actual 'Gold' content ?

That would depend on what your definition of 'gold' is Rolling Eyes

I've thought for years now the name no longer suits the channel just rebrand UKTV Gold and UKTVG2 as UKTV1 and UKTV2. UKTV1 would be a mixture of the current UKTV Gold & UKTVG2 and UKTV2 should be marketed as UK Gold Classics which is more like UK GOLD used to be when it started.

I like G2 as it is... it makes up in a way for the loss of Play

I still don't understand the assumption that Gold is another word for old!?

If I remember correctly, from a previos thread, it is various people's perception of the word Gold. For me it percieves that it is a classic programmes - a programmes from another era. I.e. older than 10 years old.

FOr some other people it just means a "classic" programmes whether its from years ago or whether its a contemporary show, i.e. Prison Break (but I don't consider Prison Break to be a classic - if anything Band of Men and more recently Rome are more of a modern classic US Drama)

Well my TitsUp TV contract finishes next week and I must admit I won't miss UKTVGold in its current state.
