Is it a "Drama Comedy" genre programme? If so then it still classes as drama. If it was a Two Pints of Lager style sitcom then fine, but drama with comedic value is still drama.

And since when did Gold mean old as has been said? Gold means something of value, something that was well recieved. So yes even though the likes of Little Britain and Doctor Who are less than a year old, because they were very well recieved, they can easily be classed as "Gold".

When I referred to Gold I mean a classic, a well remembered programme from the past that not only gained a fantastic audience appreciation but may have also gained decent ratings and good reviews.

How can any programme that is 5 years or less be classed as a classic?

They may well be well received with good viewing fgures etc.... but do they stand the test of time.

If they only showed programmes like the type you are describing, they'd just be showing repeats of Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses and The Good LIfe. I know they do that anyway, but they put these newer programs in (at least this is my view) that were well recieved, even if they were only a year or so old to add some new programmes to their schedule. You can't play the same stuff forever!

Surely a programme watched by the well known social commentator Nick Harvey deserves to be on the UK's premier drama channel?

I remember about 3 years ago, UK Gold trying to change what it did by showing some gameshows- they showed the first series of The Weakest Link as well as Friends Like These, but both shows vanished quickly and they went back to how they were before- only worse. I mean showinf 3 or 4 episodes of My family int he afternoon, then repeating them again in the evening is hardly, in my opinion, a ghood use of airtime. There's so many things they could show, but they insist on showing the same few shows over and over. ALso, they moved back the afternoon episode of EastEnders, now they've dropped it completly which means I frequently miss it.

The name of the channel means nothing of the sort. 'Gold' doesn't mean 'old'

Na I don't agree really, I think UK Gold has lost the plot a long time ago, it really should be showing stuff from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's up to mid 90's, not something from the Beeb shown a few months ago!

I think it should be renamed simply call it UKTV to end the Gold arguement.

What alot of people never think of is that when the original UKGold when it began, there was no DVD releases or other similar networks.

So some of the stuff they began repeating like Just Good Friends, Open All Hours, Some Mothers Do Ave Em, Clarence, Going Straight, Two Ronnies etc etc
AT THE TIME these had not been repeated in years & years so it refreshing and nice to be able to watch all those shows again...
Since then other networks and the beeb themselves have re-run them to all to death and DVD sets of stuff came along, but when UK Gold 1st apeared it really was something....

Maybe they should increase their portfolio then, there are tons of classic programmes bunked in the archives!

I'm speaking in pure fantasy here but if I started my own TV channel I would want to specialist in repeating stuff no-one else does. I'd even want to 'time share' with another network because id only want to run for 5/6 hours each day always keep it fresh and just go research and find TV shows that have not been repeated buy them and then repeat them on my network that’s all it would really do... Anything like that. Thing is in reality I know it would go under quite quickly

I'll draw out my own network idents and starter schedule actually for it tomorrow and post it here
