But the Top Gear that I mentioned earlier WAS from the latest series.

The copies of Top Gear they've got are all over the place. Some are 14:9, some are 4:3, some are filmised, some are not. Some have break stings, some haven't. A few episodes even have the theme to the later series of the original Top Gear as a break sting, it's mental! Laughing

Interesting. With the plans already afoot, you'd presume that they'd have already got the episodes in 16:9.
Could it be that they're using the wrong versions of programmes, or that the adverts are been played out off something different to the programmes?

God knows...strangely enought I haven't given it that much thought really. I just don't know why I have to have 4:3 stretchyvision on my 16:9 tv for a 16:9 programme. It's irritating and makes Dave look decidedly amateur.

Yeah I agree, especially when you see the preceeding adverts, trailers and idents all now in 16:9. Very strange.

Including a promo for a 4:3 programme (WLIIA) in 16:9!

The world's gone mad!

Ray Mears in 14:9 (4:3 frame). Looks like they've made no effort to rebuy programmes where they were made in 16:9.

Part of me is thinking that they'll have initially brought things that will air in prime time, so the new series of Top Gear, and the newer episodes of programmes like Qi, Mock The Week and Have I Got News For You. I presume that the same will be for the other UKTV channels too.

The Lewis Hamilton TG from the last series (the highest-rating NuTG on original transmission) is on right now. 14:9, 4:3 frame.

You don't have to. If your TV is stretching 4:3 transmissions it's set up incorrectly.

No it isn't, it means that they're sending out the wrong flag on the broadcast.

Sorry I'm confused. I thought the poster was saying that Dave were showing a 4:3 copy of a programme that was originally made in 16:9 and that their TV was stretching it to 16:9.

Yes and it does mean that my TV is permanantly set to 16:9 rather than "Auto"... but that's because I expected the channel to be 16:9! Wasn't that the point?? The only thing different on Dave today to yesterday is at every break we have the picture changing size!
