But don't worry about our older programmes. We won't mess around with them...

So why did they mess around with newer programmes?

what about UK gold? and the comedy? drama?

half of the older stuff is not wide-screen!

but the new stuff is. What you're saying makes no sense even by your standards of ignorance, do you think colour shouldn't have been introduced to BBC1 because the back catalogue at the time was in B&W ?

I hope they take the opportunity to re-acquire some of their programme library to get the 16:9 versions, and possibly reverse some of the bad editing decisions for programmes, both for content and advert breaks.

Do you really think they will though? No, neither do I.

As you say its about time. It is good to see they make a point of saying they won't mess with older 4:3 stuff and will keep it as intended. It'll be good to have Dave in widescreen especially.

A shame not messing with programmes doesn't extend to editing them with a blunt hacksaw and using a bad filmic effect so it looks like something off YouTube

Yes, since September 2005, on a 7 year contract.

Widescreen's only been around for over 10 years - give them a chance. Wink

Don't think they are saying that they did - just that 4:3 stuff will remain 4:3 and not be stretched or cropped.

It's rumoured they're also going widescreen, possibly on the same date, or if not soon after. Although I don't know if there's been any official confirmation of this.
