Was flicking through the Search and Scan earlier and saw to my disappointment that UKTV G2 is now closing down at 3am rather than 4/5am. Now I know that's only about an hour's worth of programming and that I should be in bed long before then anyway, but does anyone know of any reasoning behind this? Has it swapped bandwidth with another channel allowing that channel to go 24 hours or something? Because if G2 simply displays a caption during that downtime when they could be putting out another programme (to keep me happy) then it seems a waste of airtime!

I think they have reduced UKTV G2 to finish at 3.00am to bring it into line with the other UKTV channels. UKTV Style, UKTV Documentary and UKTV People all finish at 3.00am. I expect UKTV Drama will adjust its hours soon to close at 3.00am as well.
Also, UKTV Food and UKTV Food +1 will probably adjust its hours soon to match UKTV Style, i.e.
UKTV Food 7.00am - 3.00am
UKTV Food +1 8.00am - 7pm

I suspect it is to do with the launch of UKTVG2 + 1 (try saying that out loud!) , and that the 9pm watershed ends at 4am as I understand it.

Could be completely wrong on that one though...

I think it is 5.30am - which is the latest any adult channel can broadcast adult programming.

Plus has nothing whatsoever to do with the UKTV family of channels. Plus was operated by Granada Sky Broadcasting (I kind of lose the plot a bit when it comes to exactly who owns how much of it!) and all the UKTV channels are jointly owned by Flextech and the BBC. So the sad demise of Plus has nothing at all to do with the launch of further +1 channels in the UKTV family.

But why would they close UKTV G2 when they have just brought out UKTV G2+1.

P.s. You are right, it is a pain saying it out loud!

Do the directors of this corporation know how stupid this sounds? Do they want to become a joke because that's what I think of them right now.

They need to give UKTVG2 a better name; something like UKTV Laughs or something (I know that's a crap example, but you get the idea).

There's surely no room for UKTV G2 +1 (UKTV G3 shurley, ed). G2 sits on 111, and LIVINGtv lives on 112. Presumably Sky still have a hold on 108 as a third Sky One-type channel, meaning UKTV Gold can't be shunted down a notch to 108, with +1 on 109 leaving 110 and 111 free for UKTV G2 & +1. <pant>
