Sky Q box is actually bigger then the newer Tivo box

When we changed to the V6 box, they didn't even want the old Tivo box back, they just told us to take it to the local tip.

Not for me, they sent me a box to post back the box. Their crap Tivo has always been clunky with two replacements needed since I joined in 2012.

I was with Sky from 2009-2012 in this house, and never once had any problems with their equipment. With Tivo I have had terrible signal quality at times, two boxes replaced, and I still stayed with them, feeling that things would improve. Stupid me.

We have both only because when we moved in BT wanted a stupid amount of money for a phone line and VM did it for free so we just get the basic tv pack on Virgin with the V6 box and then have Sky Q which we actually use. I was impressed with the V6 compared to the old Tivo box, seems to be much quick and when I saw it was smaller then the Sky Q box that was a shock too Laughing

Very fluid and functional, upgraded to it last week. Very little complaints, I would definitely download the Sky Q app as well, so you can pretty much take it on the go.

Provide a cuppa and some biscuits for the engineer, and he'll put in an extra feed for you from the LNB to service any DSat port on a Smart TV or Freesat STB. Very Happy

We already have a dish installed, as we have Freesat here too, so maybe that will be handy?

He'll change it to an octo-LNB for SkyQ, and replace the cables (and possibly dish if it's a bit rusty). Just ask and you'll get a shiny new feed for your Freesat too.

If you have any Freesat receivers you want them to keep working make sure you mention them to the engineer so that they fit a ‘hybrid’ LNB that is compatible with both Sky Q and Fresat / other Sky receivers.

I don’t have any other boxes bar the Sky Q and one ‘mini box’ but I was friendly to the engineer (I’m sure tea / coffee and biscuits were offered), asked nicely when they rang the night before (they said to remind them when they arrived) and got a hybrid LNB at know extra charge. Gives me flexibility in the future.

Before Sky Q I already had Sky HD and presumably the cables were considered adequate (good thing given where they are run) and just needed new terminations to make them good enough. Seem to remember the engineer saying he might need to replace the dish to fit the new LNB but don’t think he did in the end.

Sky Q has quite a different layout to the older EPG that was on Sky HD boxes but it’s logical once you get used to it. The touch remote takes some getting use to but stick with it- I wasn’t keen at first but once I got used to it I really liked it (still do) and wouldn’t want to go back to the standard remote (that is supplied as well) - pretty much what the enigenner told me at the time.

One of the big things that has really put me off Virgin (even before the current troubles) is something that’s been on Sky pretty much since the earliest days of Sky Digital (albeit with less broadcasters than now) and that’s a dynamic EPG. If a programme is on a BBC, ITV, C4 or Sky channel it’s incredibly rare the end of a recording is cut off, let alone a whole programme be missing. I think Eurosport may now update their EPG in ‘real time’, I think BT still don’t but that makes them something of an exception amongst channels who have a lot of live programming in their schedules.

You know what it's good to be honest, had to reset the box a few times but nothing major.

Really missed Gold and Drama tonight - they was nothing on and my dad went into a tirade because of it. Would have probably been something on one of those channels.
