The reason for the loophole was to help encourage investment in the cable TV industry more than 30 years ago, but it has long been exploited by the likes of TVCatchup and similar services.

So the TVCatchup people are partly responsible for this? I never liked them or their attitude to be honest.

Satellite, either Sky or Freesat is really the preferred option. Satellite is usually available to 98% of areas, and of course you have the choice of pay or free service, with great channel selections on both services.

The only thing I could see virgin doing is contributing to Aerials as part of 12months contracts to stop people leaving but who don’t have a working Aerials.

It seems an interesting workaround but for people in areas like myself that only have Freeview Lite and can’t get UKTV channels, it wouldn’t work.

It must be quite rare to be able to get cable but only freeview lite.

There are a fair few small scale relays in some of Britain's hillier cities that would fall into this category, such as the Headlingley transmitter in Leeds and Bradford West.

Apparnelty Virgin call centre went down yesterday and still has extremely long delays. Indicative of cancellations - even the threat of ITV channels going has probably cost them customers.

How much will all this affect Virgin Media in Ireland?

As things stand, the TV3 rebrand is still going ahead at the end of August.

I suspect their plans are too far progressed to even consider cancelling this rebrand, even if it may not have the result for which they hoped.

However, aren't the 3 channels also on Saorview, so may end up being a good way to promote the Virgin Media brand, even if they have a reduced audience for their cable services.

It's fairly remarkable how poor these individuals are at running a company. They've decided to drop the 3 Name which wasn't exactly a brand of quality and replace it with a brand that has a much worse reputation especially in the Dublin area, and to top all of that they don't actually own the branding Shocked

N'aww. I was looking forward to the fallout from that.

I wonder Virgin looked at the cancellation figures and those who have threatened to do so and stayed as they were offered a discount or a better deal and knew they would really suffer economically if the ITV channels went because many more would have gone down the same path.
