UKTV is planning to launch a new channel dedicated to gardening shows, Broadcast reports this week.

Called UKTV Gardens, the new station would feature shows such as Challenge, The Weekend Gardener and Ground Force, as well as new content.

The magazine speculates that the channel could be a replacement for UKTV BrightIdeas, which is struggling in the ratings.

Well is anyone surprised UKTV Bright Ideas is having problems. Its full of C*ap, and shows the same 10 series again, and again and again!

As for UKTV Gardens, well that just sounds like UKTV Style, but without Changing rooms, and all those other designer muck shows!

UKTV just keep launching pointless channels full of content which is already on other UKTV channels, making the need for new channels pointless.

Anyone would think its a race for the company to have the most channels in the UK!.oh God!

If its going on freeview, they'll be no ground force etc. It'll be the same few shows all the time. If you think UKTV Bright Ideas is bad now, wait for this one!

Wouldn't be great if they dropped UKTV Bright Ideas and FTN and replaced it with Living TV

Not once watched UKTV Bright Ideas, but FTN has the odd hidden gem in it's schedule - and at least offers British programming which woudln't be seen on free TV otherwise.

I think extending FTN to 24 hrs would be a better idea, using more programming from Challenge and Living during the day, then having a Trouble zone from about 4pm.

That would make more sense.

As for UKTV, Bright Ideas now clashes with the other UKTV lifestyle channels available via Top Up TV anyway, it really is a naff channel.

I think you're all missing the point. Bright Ideas exsists as a platform for UKTVs *original* programming (the same as FTN is Flextechs original programming). The reason it can appear on Freeview is because it only contains original programming which those without subscription TV wouldn't have seen.

Well at least it might bring Aberdeen's Beechgrove Garden to a wider audience (I thin it was on UKTV something else before). The only bit of regular TV from BBC Scotland made outside Glasgow, maybe there is the politics show on Sunday morning from Edinburgh. Can't think of any others.
