And he wished us a Good Night too. It felt like a proper closedown announcement from the past.

Happens every night on the BBC in Wales. And S4C~ even insist that you sleep tight.

Tut, the English lot are *so* impolite.

I spotted it on Analogue cable, and on analogue terrestrial the testcard has shrunk so I guess it was on both.

The reason it's "shrunk" is because all BBC output is 16:9- 4:3 is pillarboxed. It looks like analogue were still showing the output in 14:9, rather than returning it to 4:3.

Looks like tonight is the big shutdown with all BBC TV, some UKTV and some BBC Radio services being shutdown between the same hours that have seen engineering work the past two mornings...

With regards to Radio, it will only be the digital transmissions of BBC Radio that will be affected, analogue will continue as normal.

You are advised to check your EPGs for information on which services will be shutdown.

I can't believe you lot who stayed up to watch a closedown!

I mentioned on page 2 the reason for this, it is not the annual transmitter rebroadcast tests, it is work in the TX area's of TVC, including the mux equipment, hence just about every BBC service is effected, especially digital. It is entirely possible that engineering work on transmitters is going on, but I doubt it somehow.

It also has no connection to the stage 6 power outage last week, this work has been planned for sometime.

I didn't stay, up, I set my alarm clock Wink .

Actually I didn't stay up, once you've seen the test card once, you've seen it a million times. I was much happier being asleep.

Well I didn't stay up either (well not really) went to bed about 9:30, set my alarm for 3:45 to catch the tests and then watched the cricket for a bit then had to go and do my paper round!

And these tests have given me a great chance to catch the test card on the 32 inch TV we got a few months ago... great quality picture, no bad picture distortion on the parts of the test card that test it... and with Pixel Plus the test card looked even better than before! And great quality watching it through digital for the first time too!

TVDragon, does the BBC Wales announcement happen just before the handover to News 24, and does the announcer (as used to happen on Channel TV, and probably still does-don't have Sky Digital now!!) give his/her name?

It depends what time the handover to News 24 is, how much time is available for the announcement, who the announcer is, and what mood they're in that day Wink

DigiGuide is now showing gaps in both BBC One and BBC Two's schedules tonight.

There's also a gap between 4:20 and 5:00 on BBC One on Friday morning on BBC One.

Well yes, some of the *nicer* ones even gives us a bit of foreign to wish peeps goodnight.. Hehe.

I think I've heard a name check almost as many times as I haven't, from rough memory. Especially if Wales are away from network with their timeshifted Sign Zone etc.

BTW, Channel doesn't have its own continuity anymore, let alone a namecheck at the last junction.

I don't think I'll be seeing this one tonight, I'm guessing it'll mainly be the same as last night. BBC2 went into the Learning Zone with virtually the same announcement about the tests that was heard last night.

Pretty much exaclty the same as last night, except on BBC2, the test card came straight in after a plug for the Learning Zone Guide, no apology given to those who might be wanting to record Work Talk: France.
