Couldn't help but notice, but at the end of Taggart on ITV1 last night, it was credited to both STV and to Alibi, where the logo looked right out of place on the STV endcap, although it had a 'From UKTV' tag underneath the logo.

Also the web address wasn't itv.com/taggart, stv.tv/taggart or u.tv/taggart, it was www.taggart.tv

Don't ITV force production houses to place the generic ITV.com website address on the credits?

Yeah about that - why do Coronation Street etc have u.tv, stv.tv and itv.com domains?

Surely STV/UTV could overlay their own domains if they cared that much?

They could, but its made more complicated by having DVEs during the credits.

But the question should be, "why should they have to?" STV and UTV pay their share for these programmes to be produced by the network, and they "care so much" because they stand to lose revenues by having ITV directing web traffic to their own site.

Fair enough I suppose - I wonder how many Scottish viewers prefer to use the STV website over the ITV one? I'm guessing the content isn't as rich.

Have you been on? I would encourage you to have a look at stv.tv/player for a start.

Its faster to respond, its less peppered with ads (and it doesn't stall on them the way ITV's player does). Content is typically uploaded faster too.

But in terms of programme specific content - its pretty rich there as well.

http://programmes.stv.tv/dancing-on-ice for example, and http://programmes.stv.tv/coronation-street

Have a look and see what you think.

No, although without wanting to sound like a snob I don't enjoy much (anything, really) on ITV1 so it's difficult for me to say what I'd like to see, but yes they do appear to make something of an effort, and STV Player is certainly much better than ITV's yes.

I just wonder what the average-Scot does regarding this sort of thing.

They plug the website a lot (although to be fair I'm not a massive channel 3 watcher either).

Its more tricky when there are in-programme pointers from the presenters of ITV shows - I imagine people will browse where they're told.

But if you use the site as a portal for lots of things (I do read their news stories sometimes, and the weather) then its easy to be drawn in to other parts of it.

I certainly use the stv.tv player for things like Harry Hill, and even some Dancing on Ice, I confess.

I use STV Player, avoiding ITV Player unless I have to go there due to content not being available on STV.

With regards to programme sites I do tend to go to itv.com for Coronation Street, but only out of habit. Perhaps I'll give STV's page a go.
