Here's a question. When are UKTV going to get widescreen playout facilities? They're showing more and more shows shot in widescreen, and their 14:9-o-vision looks a bit crap on widescreen tellies.
True, but it must look rubbish to the average Joe when Sky One shows home-grown crap about badly behaved southern males in 16:9 but the UKTV group who are showing a lot of high-budget programmes can't manage it.
Mind you the average Joe has probably got his STB set up wrong and his widescreen telly in "I'm A Nobhead" stretch-o-vision.
It's a damn cheek having to pay for these channels when you aren't getting the full picture!
I'm totally amazed at this comment from you, Simon, given how you're reacting in another thread.
So how would you counter my argument if I were to say that as long as 4:3 televisions are still available, the broadcasters have a moral obligation to continue transmitting everything in 4:3?
Yep, I agree entirely. I would imagine (read: would like to think) that once UKTV moves to the Broadcast Centre all new widescreen programmes will be delivered edited in 16:9, whilst those which have already been edited to 14:9 on a 4:3 raster/screen can - in the short term - be TXd as a 4:3 programme.
