UKTV Gold is currently in widescreen

Spice World the Movie was in widescreen and now Dancing with the Stars is also in widescreen

Adverts and trailers are still in 4.3 though

I'd imagine it's only for Spiceworld.

and there's no widescreen flag on Top Up TV.

16:9 stretched to fill 4:3 screen

Flipping to +1 there's no flag but all seems to be ok with Dancing with the Stars. Hopefully today is the start of all newly acquired content being broadcast in ws.

As an aside, has anyone been watching Dancing.. ? I caught the end of it last week and the credits appear in the bottom third whilst the presenters are wrapping up (a nice idea IMO - no-one will turn over and the credits are perfectly legible). The female presenter started to speak with the theme music quietly underneath but her microphone wasn't working. This carried on for a few seconds before the UKTV Gold anno popped up and started talking. The presenters didn't seem to realise she couldn't be heard.

So has this happened every week where they've dubbed over the last 30secs with a presenterless version just so that the anno can speak?!

Could she be thanking the commercial sponsors?

At one point when I passed by it on +1 on Astra, for some unknown reason they were transmitting an anamorphic 16:9 image but sending a 14:9 zoom flag.

Very odd and very incorrect too.

It was okay if you manually set it to widescreen, but if you let all the boxes do as they were being told by the broadcaster, the result was extremely odd.

Ahh, didn't think of that. Very likely I suppose.

Nice endcap used...

I wonder if there is a timescale for the other UKTV channels to switch to widescreen, as there was for most of the Sky channels for 16:9 programmes?

It's worth remembering that this isn't a first - UKTV G2 (now 'Dave') broadcast in widescreen during the World Cup
