I saw a bit of UK Today this weekend (Sat 13 Oct, evening)

I noticed something a bit different about the background...

1. There was a national-news-studio style railing between the back of the presenter's chair and the back wall.

2. Although the backdrop was still that looped recording of the News24 red wall, something seemed different about it. It looks like it's now put there by way of either a plasma screen or a projection - but not CSO anymore because the presenter doesn't have a glowing outline aymore.

Has anyone else noticed this? Can anyone confirm exactly what has changed?

Cheers in anticipation, Jack Wink

No offence, Robert, but that appears to a piccy from before the railing was added (?).

To give everyone some idea of the height of the railing, if it were in the piccy, it would look like it was coming out of the presenter's elbows.

Ah well, sounds interesting!

Maybe they are TRYING to make UK Today, slightly better than it is now!?

Ah well I can dream!!! I'll have to check it out tomorrow, I haven't watched UK Today in AGES! Smile

I don't want to be picky, but that screengrab came from today's bulletin, Sunday October 14th.

Apologies Robert.

Maybe I imagined the railing (did you notice one when you saw today's bulletin?).

Maybe the railing's lower down than I thought (and cuz the desk is in your piccy, the railing can't be seen).

Maybe I'm going blind (i.e. the railing is clearly visible in your piccy but for some reason I can't see it)!!!!! Wink

Maybe the railing was there yesterday, but it was just a one-off (but what reason would there be for that?).

Perhaps I should recall a certain phrase about thinking before you speak - 'Think twice before saying nothing'

can someone please answer my question. Is it only digital viewers that get UK today? I need someone to explain how you receive it!

Yes its only digital. I get UK Today on digital and North West Tonight on analogue.

So Rob, because you have Digital, how can you change to analogue? Do you have to press a special button on the control pad to decide what you want to watch? I just don't get it, all because I have crappy cable!

Well I either press '1' on my TV remote or tv and button 1 on my SKY Digital remote. I get UK Today on Channel 101 (Network BBC ONE) on SKY.

UK Today replaces all BBC regional news bulletins on digital satellite (i.e. Sky Digital). I know cuz I've got Sky Digital!

I think (but don't know ) that you do get your own regional BBC news on digital terrestrial . I have no idea what happens on either analogue or digital cable .

For those platforms on which you would usually get your regional BBC news (e.g. analogue terrestrial ), if your programme is temporarily unavailable (e.g. because of industrial action; or technical problems) then UK Today is used as the 'fall-back'.

By the way just in case there is anyone in here who doesn't know, terrestrial means TV through your aerial
