Well, here in Yorkshire (analogue BBC One) at 6.15, you know when the local news programme gives you their headlines, we got Gwenan Edwards and UK Today instead of Christa Ackroyd and Look North.
No a very good evening for BBC news. What happened with Margaret Gilmore's mic. The sound quality was appaling. And what happened with the weather. Why was David Braine sitting down? Anyone know?http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/confused.gif
it seems someone's timings were out - (either pebble mill or london?) as it seems they had to wrap it up quick at the end, and fade straight into huw edwards at 6.55 (without the titles)

Maybe the mic point at the screen was playing up so they had to do the weather sitting down...
Was it me or when the lady was infront of the screen (when the mic was dead) you could hear a female voice - it sounded like the sound from the gallery.
Wouldn't surprise me if it was a dead radio mic, or flat batteries.
In this case, as happens with the weather on News 24, a standby mic is used - but this is quite a long way off and quite 'open' so picks up the airconditioning and all sorts of other sounds.
If they couldn't fix it safely by the end of the programme - then it would make more sense to put the weather presenter on a cable mic on the set as they did, rather than do weather on a standby. It did seem as though they fixed it for the end of the item in the middle of the news though...
I would imagine you were hearing talkback from a floor manager's headphones, headphones left on a camera, or an earpiece.
As for the 1830 opt - UK Today kept to time, as did the 1855 summary. If Midlands today crashed the end, I expect they were late starting their programme duration timing (which wouldn't surprise me if they were late opting out...)
Here in the west that is not uncommon, and when the balloon is right they forget to switch it off!
Do any other regions have problems at 1025 opt outs and at Breakfast?
The west seem to press the botton to late. Just the other day we got a mix of Uk Today and Points West music, followed by the sports results, a RECONSTRUCTION sign in the corner and a name tag at the side.
Shambles!

Problems from South Today (Oxford) also when Geraldine Peers was cut off in her prime reading the weather and replaced with UK Today closing titles at 1025,

Look North in Leeds and Newcastle seem to be very good at opting (although Newcastle often play the 5sec thunderclap headline bed at 6.00pm)... but I suppose like today in Leeds if you miss the opt then you can't start it late for 12 seconds can you - not a lot of leeway!
